Psa 9 & Psa 10 complete set combination

I’m getting close to completing my 1st edition fossil set, 1st edition rocket set , and base unlimited set. I have a combination of PSA 10’s and PSA 9’s for all of these sets. Does anyone else do a combination of 9’s and 10’s for your complete sets? Or do you strictly have PSA 9 sets and PSA 10 sets. I’ve graded most of these cards myself so I didn’t have the option of collecting strictly 9’s or 10’s, I just took what I got. All of the cards I have are at least PSA 9’s though I don’t go any lower than that.

I guess what I’m asking is, does having a combination of 9’s and 10’s still count as a complete set? What do you guys think? I really want to hear everyone’s opinions on this. Your input is greatly appreciated!

Much love! - Zacheggers

Cards make a set, not grades.
8’s, 9’s and 10’s mixed wouldn’t bother me too much. But I can see how people find it more enjoyable to have one grade across all cards.

Mixing grades absolutely counts towards a complete set. The higher the grade, the better the set.
Have you posted your set to the PSA Set Registry - www.psacard.com/psasetregistry/non-sports/company-sets/1999-pokemon-fossil-1st-edition/13265 ?

I think it’s pretty cool to see other people’s collection and see where you stand in the ranks. Dropping down sometimes makes for motivation to get the next card.

I’m currently working on a set of all PSA 9’s, and another set that will be a mix of 8, 9 and 10’s. It’s all a personal preference depending on individual collecting goals.

IMO

Its a complete set either way. But I’d go a bit crazy if something was a mix of 7s, 8s and 9s.

When talking about 10s, its impractical to have a complete set in some cases and so 9s are necessary substitutes. Like Typhlosion from Neo Genesis. So I can justify a mixture of 10s and 9s. B

Thanks for the advice! No I haven’t registered my cards with the set registry

I agree with this. It’s not always practical to get every card in PSA 10 so a mix of 9s and 10s is okay with me.

Expedition Skarmory is another card like Typhlosion that has such a low pop that people have to settle for 9s.

i mix sets i collect psa 9s through but if the price is cheap enough i might as well throw in a psa 10 in there but as i am a base set collect the price different between the two is usually very big but if i grade 10s then thats a bonus

This is one of the biggest reasons I prefer raw cards.

I get a VERY positive feeling when seeing a mixed 9/10 set. I consider it “An extremely strong Mint set”.
I mean, would I rather look at a complete PSA 9 Base holo Set or a Set that includes 3 PSA 10s? It’s not even close;)

Good point, thanks Gary. I’d say my sets are 25-30% 10’s and the rest are 9’s.

Buy the chase/value/iconic cards in 10s and lower grades on the rest.

I like having all the same grades, it just grinds my gears for my personal stuff when it’s mixed, must be some OCD or something

I like mixed sets. That way I know they’re persevered forever. If deals came along to buy the odd upgraded card, I’d go for it. But I’m just happy to have those hard to find cards.

Me too. But I can see myself picking up a mix of 8’s and up to complete sets and then upgrade them later on when the opportunity arises.

All 10’s, I like to stay broke  jk
