Thanks to the massive influx of cards being graded at PSA and stuff filtering onto Ebay, I finally had the opportunity to acquire a PSA 4 Jungle Pikachu to finish my 1-10 set!
I was able to buy 6-10 on Ebay very quickly when I started this endeavor a couple years ago. 1-3 I graded myself and for a time I had the only 1, the only 2, and the only 3 (there is now at least 2 of every grade). 4 and 5 I thought were too inconsistent to grade myself and when the backlog grew to a year, I didn’t have the patience to grade for this purpose. I grabbed the 5 off ebay earlier this year and then started the hunt for the only (at the time) PSA 4 in the world and I feared it would never be complete because why would anyone be grading low quality Jungle commons and who knew where that one copy was sitting. But apparently 4 more people graded bad condition Pikachus last year and one of them has made it to me (I surprisingly actually had to bid against someone to buy it).
I plan to put them in a frame and hang it in my home office. It has been a low-cost, low-value, but long-time endeavor; but it is my all time favorite card and I take some enjoyment that I’ll have a pretty unique collection of such a commonplace card that everyone has.
My next goal is to finish my binder with 480 raw copies of the card.
Has anyone else put together a PSA 1-10 set of a card you love?
Thanks! I can’t take credit for the idea, I saw someone trying to do it with base set Alakazam several years ago but I definitely haven’t seen many others in the time since then! I’m just lucky my favorite card is so cheap
Big congrats on completing it! Maybe I’ll one day try to get a PSA 1-10 set of the Moltres, considering I do have the 4 already that I graded myself from my original childhood card.
I know @xgav1337x has done a PSA 1-10 unlimited Charizard in 2017. He also made a short (and still unfinished *wink @ xgav* ) article about it here on the forum.
Tried to go for a Base Set Blastoise 1-10 set and the hardest one to get was the 2. When I started the set the Pop for that was like 4 or something if I remember correctly. Stopped when I was just missing the 1 which I wanted to grade myself but no copy came back as a 1 yet
It’s surprisingly hard to find something already in 1 condition - and just damaging it yourself feels wrong haha. That’s what I ended up having to do for the 1 and 2 though after my first worst condition one came back as the 3
This sentence resonated with me and I feel like it captures the essence of collecting. There’s a lot of high-end collections that stop me in my tracks but this collection sends me back to my childhood and reminds me why I picked up Pokemon in the first place. I respect the hustle and congratulations on the goal!
I wish I never saw this article. I have a PSA 6 Gold Star gyarados that looks 10000% better than that zard. When I submitted it I anticipated an 8. Such a dissapointment Really bothers me to see cards with higher grades that look crappier than mine, esp after I waited 1yr to get them back.
