When did this turn into a heated argument?
It’s always like this
Just wait for the next “is PSA pop controlling” thread
Its not heated. People can have conflicting feelings about things without there being an “argument” that needs to be locked. No one is going for necks here and making this personal.
Is there any proof these are test prints and not just unauthorized prints that were run without the full process? I dont really see what they are testing with these or if they are meant for destruction as they aligned colors or machines through normal routines. Most other test prints can be explained as part of production, these ones i havent heard what production process would need these.
I guess my hang up is the term test print for cards makes me think testing different styles and artifacts until they were decided. Fully printed finalized cards that are missing the border color process doesnt strike me as testing much when its already determined that borders are yellow.
Nice buying several though, they can be a cool item since they are oneoffs and are unique in their own way. I love unique items like this when they are made as part of the official production process.
I’m confused why you went after wailmer about IP worship and corporate bootlicking, neither of which they appeared to be doing in their posts. I think your big post has caught a bunch of us off guard.
Me not being bothered by cut sheets
I saw you going after wisewailmer with something about Pokemon IP, which confused me because I hadn’t seen anything like that at all in his post. It appeared to be some form of rant about how people we’re taking this too seriously, and the amount of cussing in the post only added to that fact.
I didn’t address my post to wisewailer. I just hit “Reply” at the bottom! lol @wisewailmer sorry if that looked like I was going at you personally. This is just a blanket statement.
I’m thinking that Chris is just responding to the sentiment that people shouldn’t buy these out of principle. I don’t think it was intended as a direct reply
Ohhh that makes more sense. My bad.
Wisewailmer is the homie
Lol I was just joking too. I didn’t sense anything malicious
Unfortunately I think the only way to settle this and preserve your honor is if you two fight to the death. Sorry guys. :\
@wisewailmer @chrispy You can choose a weapon from the cabinet. Hate to see one of you end up in the dirt over a misunderstanding but I see no other way forward.
Oh no, not the dark ages stagecoach…
Pokemon showdown is experiencing technical difficulties rn. Otherwise we could duel
Also, @lyleberr brought up a good point. I don’t think this is a prototype. It’s likely just a test print with an ink layer missing. Kinda similar to the double-print make-ready test sheet. I actually feel like that’s most likely in this case and it’s why the cards didn’t fetch super high prices. It’s just kinda neat to own some jungle cards without those yellow boarders since not many of them exist.
I dont think proof one way or another will surface. However, heres my 2 cdngs as someone who’s been around this kind of work:
Printing finished graphics/layouts is sometimes done on white stock to either ensure color calibration, alignment, or the properties of the card stock (or all of the above).
The card stock is always white (for non-holos).
For some reason they just didn’t include the yellow spot color layer that makes up the border. Maybe it was for a test, maybe they were just printing stuff off for fun. It’s notable that the same person has both a Jungle and Base sheet like this. If they were done as tests for each respective set, it seems unlikely that they would end up together.
Either way I personally don’t think the distinction is that meaningful. The cards exist now regardless
What we need to do is open fresh Jungle theme decks and have a proper duel!
It’s cool to see there’s growing interest in the test print world. Since I live in the WOTC area, things are still surfacing. You have to remember that there were tons of printed items that never made it to the market, because at the time they weren’t worth anything. The ones that survived (truly) are unique and very cool. I’m happy to have my cosmos copies. They are also NFC but I didn’t have a choice. However, they aren’t cut like these. A deliberately bad cut from an intact sheet is where it divides people. I just wish more care was taken to cut them properly, whether that was intentional or not.
I am obsessed with tests and prototypes and want one a lot.
If I was buying right now I would have bought one of these, I think. It’s not my ideal sample and I feel similarly to you.
