Pricetracking Prototype Cards

Well using the term regular collector always ruffles feathers. Just like PC and cardstock do.

I think pokecollectoramy just meant people buying without the intention to sell

Of course. Goal is to acquire more for my collection into the coming year. I have a few grails I’d like to grab if possible.

I do think these cards have intrigue, you just have to dig through layers of nonsense. I get how this convoluted experience turns people off from the cards, it shouldn’t be this difficult to collect something you enjoy.

Nice! That was a little tongue in cheek by me, but appreciate you taking it well. Im a serious collector, and while they interest me they aren’t on my collection list.

I don’t think it’s illegal for an auction company to shill their own items. So I can see a situation where Alt agrees with a seller that the items can’t sell below a certain price and they boost some cards themselves.

An auctioneer shall not state at an auction that an increased bid greater than that offered by the last highest bidder has been made when, in fact, no person has made an increased bid. Notwithstanding the foregoing, an auctioneer or another authorized person may place a bid on the seller’s behalf during an auction of real property that would not result in a sale of the real property, if both of the following are true:

(1) Notice is given to all auction participants, including all other bidders, that liberty for that type of bidding is reserved and that type of bid will not result in the sale of the real property.

(2) The person placing that type of bid contemporaneously discloses to all auction participants, including all other bidders, that the particular bid has been placed on behalf of the seller.

I think there is a way for the auction house to say their own bid is an actual bid to get around state laws but you could be 100% right here

depends on which state they are in, if its like arizona u basically can

I assumed you were aware that you’re the top 0.1% of collectors and that having a 6-figure collection was the bare minimum for an E4 mod?

its strange that someone would pay more for a modern alt art that came out in the last 3 years with a psa 10 pop in the thousands or tens of thousands than a psa 10 wotc card right from their childhood but thats a different discussion entirely

In traditional auction houses it is a common and accepted practice for the auctioneer to bid up to the reserve (which appears as real bids). Its a good thing to be aware of. I do not think these online card auctions have reserves though, rather starting bids.

Since people took umbrage with my use of the word regular lol, I just meant someone who is not a flipper/“investor”/dealer/streamer and is only looking out for the price 30 days out

This explanation doesn’t really make sense

Regular collectors gotta be insane to touch these with all this nonsense happening

The people who are flippers/investors with a 30 day time horizon are the insane for buying into these because they’ve just tanked over time.

The regular collectors that know what they want and just buy something because they want to own it are doing fine, I assure you.

Not sure what you’re arguing about but you do you lol my comment was about not buying something at the time when it’s being actively shilled and manipulated, not sure why that’s controversial :man_shrugging:

Your point was that you either have to be 1) a flipper/“investor”/dealer/streamer (ie. Not a regular collector) or 2) insane to have bought any of these.

My response is you don’t have to be either to simply buy something and enjoy it.

I’m not sure what kind of response you expect from a provocative comment like this.

I can’t tell if you’re serious or not.

In my eyes, the prototype cards are modern garbage. How you mishandle something so precious after we saw what happened with the first fossil/water theme deck test prints is layers of insanity. I do love how the distraction is making other cards cheaper, though.

I see you read it wrong, no worries. I should have said “insane to touch these right now” to avoid the “provocative” nature of the statement. I bid on a few of that fanatics ones 3 weeks ago. I find them interesting, but less so when being manipulated

On the other side of the coin I think collectors just see this as another buying opportunity, at a potentially lower price. I fall into that boat personally.

When there’s blood in the streets…
