Pricetracking Prototype Cards

I think they’re cool but it’s not something I actually want to collect. These are items that I feel would best fit in a museum or maybe a Pokemon Center display piece. I’d rather stick with products that were sold in stores

That would be really cool to see them displayed in pokemoncenters across japan. Turn them into informational augmented reality stops for all their digital games, have them give out special prizes on first visit, all sorts of things that can show and respect the history of producing the cards.

To me owning ‘museum-quality’ cards is where its at. Of course the binders are awesome but having something that belongs in a museum is super cool. I understand all the baggage and questions associated with these though. I wonder if the stigma will ever go away or if these will will have permanent baggage associated with them…

Planes only allow you to bring so much baggage onto the plane. If you have too much stuff, you gotta take some out before being allowed onto the plane. We as collectors only take so much baggage too.

I personally really like these cards but can understand why someone’s policy is stricter and doesn’t allow as much baggage on their runway to their collection.

You can look at past non-official TCG cards for the answer

  • test prints
  • FPO
  • matchstick print
  • Non-factory cut prints i.e. white borders, disco holos
  • demo prints

From what I’ve seen these kinds of cards have an exciting FOMO period shortly after discovery and eventually become niche, pricy pieces that collectors can flex and enjoy

Once it becomes too niche, the flex is lost and more meant for personal enjoyment. I think prototype cards belong to this category.

I agree 99% of the prototypes will be nice for species collectors. The pikas and charizards will likely still be a flex

For species collectors that are serious though, these offer the chase that perhaps a seaking collector doesn’t have anywhere else.

That’s a good point. Unfortunately, that seaking collector has to bid against wealthy individuals that perhaps don’t give a horn drill about seaking.

That environment is conducive to high prices though was my point… Since it’s the only chase the species collector has

Thankfully it’s only gen 1 mons. Another reason to be diverse with species collecting :pikacowboy:

Just to note - there are currently 37 cards that remain unpaid from alt auctions 10/17 and 10/24. I am sure these will be relisted at some point after these next two blocks of unpaid cards finish.

Hey! I’ve been meaning to update my own collection on here, but I did purchase a beta Kabuto on fanatics! After fees, it was something like $1890? If you’d like I can get a more specific number for you later

I have the other one

Interesting that Kabuto has an empty evolution box at the top. Do any other base pokemon have that?
