Yikes
The only way we’ll definitively know which ones are reposts is to get the CGC cert # added to the data and compare to the ones that are currently up for auction. I don’t want to compile the cert # data though. For the species where 2 were previously sold and 2 are up for auction, that’s pretty clear.
I’ll do my best to clean up the data and send it back to @pfm when the new auctions are done.
There was ~17 posted on ALT for auction before 11/1. @gemmintpokemon mentioned the unpaid ones will be posted on 11/1, which is now a total of 66. So I suspect ~49 were unpaid. Can’t confirm definitively though.
I can confirm that most if not all of them are relists because they are still being “watched” on my account from the first time they were listed
Someone’s son is in SO much trouble
Interesting that a sizable amount of these relists were of more popular Pokemon that “sold” for higher amounts (high 4 figures - 5 figures). When there isn’t an established floor or a bevy of past sales data it’s not surprising to see shill bidding or buyers getting cold feet and backing out after winning. The perceived abundancy of the playtests probably isn’t helping either.
I wonder if alt will make any statements. After going through all that rigamarole to get qualified to bid there is a 0% accident rate for this stuff. Can’t be a super helpful look for a new auction house trying to get people’s business. Maybe just say something like they’ve identified the issue and removed the responsible parties to try to keep the auctions fair. Idk I feel like anything would be better than nothing
It would only help. Right now, at least to me, they are a shill haven with little to no transparency or credibility.
Say if it was something like 50 percent of the cards not paid for by one person, did they just bid on all of them a certain amount and the ones they actually won they just left? The other possibility of course is that it was just a disorganized mess of several people bidding and getting cold feet once they won.
All playtest cards sold for at least 4 figures. Some of these retests though were definitely outliers in terms of being not very popular species but “selling” for much more than popular species.
A lot of the relisted beta playtests were starters, eeveelutions, legendary birds and other popular Pokemon such as Gyarados, Dragonite, Magikarp, Pikachu. There are some outliers of less popular Pokemon being relisted but I think something could be said about the risk involved with paying $6k+ on cards who’s value is highly speculative in nature, along with uncertainty surrounding their release and being dumped in a less-than-ideal manner.
Not trying to justify non-paying buyers or shill bidding but there’s a reason more cards in the $1k - $2k range are being paid for and many of the more expensive ones aren’t.
Regular collectors gotta be insane to touch these with all this nonsense happening
Curious if Alt actually gives these penalties or suspensions. Their ToS states:
- Immediately pay for your purchase. If you have sufficient balance in your Alt Wallet, payment will be automatically processed. If you don’t have sufficient funds, you must initiate a payment within (3) days of the purchase (“Timely Payment”). If you do not make a Timely Payment, your account may suffer penalties, including possible be suspenion. A reinstatement fee may be applied and due upon account reinstatement.
I think the main problem is that as a smaller auction site, I’m betting most bidders on these auctions were new accounts so even if Alt decides to suspend or penalize them, the people with these accounts would probably just stop using their accounts
what does this mean haha
Just don’t buy from alt. Not sure why a regular collector wouldn’t want a piece of tcg history. Honestly, I’m shocked more regular collectors aren’t losing their shit about these cards existing and coming directly from Akabane. It feels like more and more of the community is becoming crypto/gambling bros who only care about holding chase cards and unopened cases. If Pokemon means anything to you or your childhood, then these cards should interest you.
Are you suggesting the people shilling on alt wouldn’t do the same on goldin, HA and fanatics?
Idk how we’re defining “regular” collectors, but for what I would consider “regular”, dropping 4 figures on a card is a significant commitment. There are a lot of other great cards out there you can buy for that money that don’t come with the associated question marks or baggage. I’m not saying I don’t think they’re authentic, or don’t think they’re cool, just that there are a lot of mental hurdles to overcome even before some likely shill bidding.
I must be beyond regular ![]()
did you lose your shit about these cards?
