Pooling resources to promote New Pokemon Snap Card Contest

I am looking to gauge overall interest from Pokemon Snap fans about the following idea:

Group purchasing a booster pack from the Logan Paul live break Goldin auctions in order to get #NewPokemonSnapContest trending on Twitter and generate further interest + get on TPCI’s radar.

My thought process:
Last box break, people could submit a line or two about themselves / promote their social channels / their favorite Pokémon. I believe this was a success for people looking to grow their YouTube / Twitch / etc. since there were up to 350,000 live viewers and as of today 11 million total viewers of the break. That’s a massive platform.

The requested message for our pack, rather than promote any individual social channels, would be something like this, depending on the character limit:

“This pack was purchased by a group of Pokemon Snap fans. In 1999, there was a photo contest where the best in-game pictures were turned into real life cards. Now we have the opportunity to encourage Pokemon to do another contest for New Pokémon Snap. Please tweet at pokemon using #NewPokemonSnapContest and if it goes viral, Pokémon will listen!”

There are four main reasons why I think this could be successful or at least worth trying:

  1. The box break will be on Pokémon Day, so Pokémon will likely be running paid promotions on Twitter anyway, and will be checking for Pokémon related hashtags.

  2. Presumably, the combination of Pokemon Day + the live break will be enough to get “#Pokémon” or “PokémonDay” trending on Twitter. Once that happens, it is much easier for related hashtag such as #NewPokemonSnapContest to reach people, as they will appear under “Trending With” for #PokemonDay

  3. Pokémon has a history of releasing promotional cards to help generate sales, mainly of movies, but also magazines, merchandise, and video games. So it’s not ridiculous to think Snap Promos are a possibility.

  4. Even if Pokémon decides a contest would be too much work, seeing so much interest from their fans would encourage them to release a Snap Promo mini set with purchase of the physical game or something along those lines.

There are two ways we could pool our resources:

Option A: People chip in to buy a pack. Whatever is pulled is graded, sold via PWCC auction, and proceeds split proportionally based on how much people chipped in. I have thought about doing something like “contribute X amount and get to claim one non-Charizard holo you get to keep if pulled” but I think this overcomplicates things and while it could be fun would also get messy easily.

Option B: People chip in just to buy the shout out from someone. Basically, we find someone who wants to win a pack at auction solely to see it breaked for the pulls and doesn’t care about the shout-out. We then offer them money to use our #NewPokemonSnapContest message as their shout out request.

I think there is power in numbers and no harm in trying. Let me know what you think! And if you are a potential pack buyer who does not care about the shout out, let me know if you’d be interested in Option B!

Cool idea. If we can get 100 people at $200 I think that might be feasible…one psa 10 charizard pull and we are all happy

Noble purpose…I’m happy to buy a slot

Cool idea - I’m open to contributing. If anything just to say that I could be part of this box break.

I wouldn’t be suprised if corporations didn’t buy all the packs just to advertise their stuff.

I can totally see lame stuff like “NordVPN has bought this pack”

Sure, I’ll buy into the pack

I would be in

If we can get 100 people down for option A that is.

I think the logistics of organizing and tracking 100 people’s money and payout would be very interesting to say the least and wish the best of luck

I do really hope they have a promotional card or two in Japan, even better if here as well but I think we are too close to release to effect TPCI. I hope to be proven wrong by you heroes

Feels like you could just talk to some of the big youtube pokemon folks and get them to coordinate a combined effort across some of their channels. We have a lot of members here with pretty decent sized reach already and some may be willing. Maybe not though it’s hard to say.

I like radars idea though and could pitch in if something like that was pursued. 200 people is a ton though. I’d think some hybrid option closer to scenario 2 is more likely but again I honestly have no idea.

Only interested if following Radar’s idea of donating the proceeds. I’d offer $100 for that cause.

Also, with the game releasing at the end of April I believe it is not feasible for them to have promos available by that time to give with games. They have enough trouble with their printers keeping up as it is. Who is to say they won’t announce a contest as the game releases and it’s in peoples hands to play and submit in game pictures to?

Assuming the packs go for roughly $20k each, I think 10 people at $2k each or 20 at $1k is easier logistics than 100 people or varying buy-in amounts.

I am open to the charity idea but it would have to be a super majority vote of everyone interested, as $1-2k is a lot to donate for many people without any expectation of at least a fun chance with gambling. Probably easier to designate a portion of any proceeds to an agreed upon charity.

Of course, the charity aspect would remove the pay - out complications, and open the door for more donors.

That’s what the first contest was. I think that would be a great result. But even if something is in the works I’d still prefer to get the message out.

I like this idea

You don’t often get the chance to be part of history and if this succeeds that’s exactly what will unfold. I think the number of participants will determine if we should take Option A or Option B. Maybe get a tally going somehow? There is definitely strength in numbers, I’m in!

Love the idea, would shorten the hashtag to #PokemonSnap

I’m in if we can get 100 people.

The auctions end in two days so I don’t really think we can organize 100 donations in that time. @stibs had the smart idea of using GoFundMe… The issue there is while people can get refunded if we don’t hit pack cost, it could take several days to reach that and 2-5 days to pay out, so it would have to be me bidding with my own money on a pack and hoping we can raise enough to cover it… I’m not super comfortable with that as I’m not looking to pay $20k for a pack break and have us ultimately end up with $3k pooled together. I also would have to get my bid limit raised on Goldin.

At this point I think Option B is the best plan. There’s also Option C, which is find someone on e4 who might be willing to bid up to $10-$15k or so but not $20k, and agreeing to send them $5k pooled together to help cover the cost if they request the Snap shout out.
