[Poll] When do you think the current Pokemon bubble will end?

A fellow optimist, fingers crossed!

a lot of that can be attributed to the gambling epidemic in the US esp how it relates to social media (e.g. they made online sports betting legal in pretty much all states) /rant

Still waiting to find product at Meijer.
I miss last year casually shopping and actually seeing product on shelf. I almost thought they discontinued pokemon because sports and lorcana took over the pokemon shelf

Current bubble - when crypto tanks (usually leads the market dump)

Actual market - Wotc maybe when those of us in their 30s who has base set when we were kids, maybe in our 70s (so another 30-40 years)?

Most millionaires are made in their 50-60s and people want to buy memories.

Marvel comics is a pretty good comparison.

Now that it’s been half a year since this thread was made, how do we feel about the current Pokemon bubble now? Has the frenzy begun slowing down or do we still have a ways to go?

People who voted we’d be back to “normal” after 6 months may have underestimated the current demand.

The only categories left are 2+ years and the new norm. I interpreted “new norm” more as this isn’t something that will just pop and end.

i personally don’t think we’re in a bubble, at least the entire market isn’t. This is a very hard market to navigate, i think TCPI learned to not over print to demand like they did with past sets. As long as pokemon continues to make good product which arguably they have this may be the new norm with slightly decrease in popularity if overall economic health of usa doesn’t improve

But the polls from May which is right about when stuff really picked up momentum. I assume it’s may of this year

Ah yeah I based it on the comment in the op about the apparent bubble starting in November 2024.

Good times. Last holiday season I remember being able to buy modern pretty easily though

ChatGPT thinks that prices are likely to remain elevated throughout 2026 due to the 30-year anniversary. A similar effect was seen during the 25-year anniversary and the post-COVID surge. The anniversary hype tends to keep Pokémon highly visible and in demand, which could sustain higher prices for about a year afterward before the market gradually cools down again.

That’s at least the conclusion based on the patterns from the previous “bubble” during COVID and the 25-year anniversary cycle.

Sounds like chat gpt is reading a lot of reddit lol

Yeah? Well, I asked my Magic 8-Ball, and it told me to ask again later.

You think that’s a real source?

I asked Akinator, and it told me Hatsune Miku.

We’ve lost 10-15% of players in the market but there are big spenders still here. It will do strong if recession doesnt happen

After reading the last few post we’re definitely in the denial stage of the bubble cycle chart.

This is actually insightful in that it shows that this is what most voices on the internet are saying.

And that says something about the experience and knowledge of the loudest voices in this space.

I think the post-covid surge and the 25th anniversary was more of a coincidence than anything. Nothing too exciting came from it and I don’t think the average person really cares. Unless they do some really amazing product releases (which I highly doubt) I just don’t see the 30th affecting much. With the exception of Pocket I think just about everything Pokemon has done for years now, even for anniversaries, is pretty meh.
