What’s crazy is from the other thread, I’ve never had postage due (to me or to recipients) from toploader use. But I know people (eeveeteam but also others) who say they have frequently had it happen to them. Before poll results are in I’d guess it’s largely just luck.

To the people who voted never: do you even buy raw cards? Haha, must be slabbed cards only then, or you treat your mailman well with holiday gifts

I only buy raw cards and have for 15 years. Never once have I had to pay postage due on something arriving.

I voted no lmao

I have never paid postage to receive. However Pirate Ship sometimes upcharges me if the weight or size is different than what I listed on the label as a sender

I basically never buy raw cards anymore online, the only similar issues I have are the eBay standard envelope gets returned to me far more often than any other types as ā€œundeliverableā€ or lost in transit when I use it for selling.

You got some luck man. I have never paid for USPS upon receipt, raw or slabbed for 7 years now

Rarely buy raw but ive had to pay postage on packages (decks) twice because of insufficient postage issues from the seller.

I’m not from the US, and therefore also haven’t voted.
But I have received postage due from my local post office arrivals three times in the past ten years or so, because the sender didn’t put enough post stamps on the letter to cover the weight, and my domestic post service couldn’t get their missing money from that sender.

The first time I simply paid it, because it was only 1 buck anyway and I couldn’t be bothered with figuring out why I had to pay it. :person_shrugging: But since the second time it was on a letter I received as middleman, and not even something I bought myself, I searched a bit online about what’s the deal with these out of principle, since it’s clearly the seller’s/sender’s fault, and not the buyer’s/receiver’s. Turns out, paying for the missing post stamps as receiver is completely optional.

Note however that I receive these ā€˜postage due’ messages a few days after I had already received the package itself, which might not be the case for your USPS postage due messages?

I’ve bought thousands and thousands of single cards and probably received a card saver in the mail less than ten times. It’s always toploaders. I’ve never been charged.

I’ve bought many raw cards over the years that came in top loaders. Never had to pay more postage. I wonder if it’s an issue of certain offices or a set of machines that specifically have an issue, affecting a specific population of people.

To provide another perspective from outside the US: Here in Germany when you don’t apply the proper postage the letter just gets returned to the sender, so I never had to pay postage due.

The only time I had to pay postage was on a magazine that for some reason the machine thought wasn’t rigid enough for media mail. It was just an extra dollar. Other than that, I’ve never had any additional postage due from buying cards.

It hasn’t happened to me at my current address but at my childhood home it happened a few times, mostly just a letter with just a stamp that they decided was too thick or heavy. Probably has to be cardboard and a toploader in a normal envelope to hit that limit. Seems up to the carrier’s discretion.

I’ve bought tons of cards that came in top loaders and I have yet to be charged for it. I wasn’t even aware that was a possibility.

Anytime I trade or sell cards raw or slabbed I always do BMWT. I have received hundreds of cards PWE in toploaders (almost every PWE order) and never had to pay for a weight discrepancy.

You may have postal workers or a postmaster who tskes their job a little too seriously

Dang I am getting royalty screwed over by my local USPS. I tried educating them after the 20th postage due envelope that it is machine safe. They said its not up to them to decide, its the sending location. I call BS then because I order from all over the country

Probably a single old postal employee who is in charge of your area who keeps flagging your local mail. Or they have something against eevee…

The only time I’ve gotten postage due was when a TCGPlayer seller decided it was a very good idea to stuff 20 raw cards into a regular envelope. Unsurprisingly, the sorter machines did not like it but the cards were unscathed somehow. Should’ve complained to the seller, dunno why I didn’t.
