'M asked me about any nightmare stories I had so I thought it would be a fun thread.
Here’s one.
In 1999 you really had to hustle to find boxes. I was living in Los Angeles and made a deal with a card shop in St. George Utah, about a 6/7 hour drive. I went up there and had to wait for a UPS delivery. It came but the WOTC product wasn’t there. So I got a room but the same thing happened the next day which was Friday. Then there were no deliveries on the weekend so I stayed till Monday.
Then on Monday the delivery came but it was ‘short ordered’ and I got none.
I was not happy at all:(
Great story Gary! This was probably when printers couldn’t keep up with the demand of the hobby. Some sports card series were discontinued in 1999 because the printers were being used so much for Pokemon.
I had a sealed green winged base box opened by UK customs who even opened a pack and left it in there, presumably to check it was real. Thanks for that mate.
I got one of those stories too.
I bought 5 boxes for 25k and paid through PayPal. All five came and were full of non 1st Ed packs. This one ebirdman was in on and can verify.
I have one of these too. I once found a stack of old, dusty, abandoned 1st edition WOTC boxes such as as Base, Jungle, Fossil etc. They were just sitting, in the retail store’s stockroom, I guess because they never sold. I took them all home cleaned them up nicely, bubble wrapped them and put them all in nice perfect fit boxes. After doing so, I sat down to drink a cup of coffee and forget I had them. I was really happy at this point, relieved because I had found them.
Years ago I had an error EX Power Keepers booster pack - the pack didn’t have a rare card in it. Only 8 cards inside. That was a sad day especially as I was like 15 years old back then and used all the little money I had for cards…
And I know the pack was legit and sealed as it came from a sealed tin or blister pack, can’t remember exactly which one it was.
Back in February 2013 I bought a sealed box of Plasma Storm online on release day. It had no holo rare or higher and many cards had a bad vertical scratch. I was advised to open a case with TPCi. They contacted me and asked for
