Pokemon Card Prototype Discussion Thread

It was the Beta presentation people were saying they thought only one existed I think.

I only know of two that exist, and I messaged him on instagram who owns both of them. Let’s see if he’s able to convince them to sell for a reasonable price.

Edit: I thought he was looking for Alpha Presentation. Two of those exists. Looks like he wants Beta Presentation. One of of those exists currently. My bad for the confusion.

Interesting to note.

I would not bid or buy any prototypes with the assumption less than 5 exist. There’s at least 10+ sets of Alpha and Beta Playtests.

For any prototype/playtest card I buy, I take into account not knowing the total supply. They are very interesting items but still with some unknowns which makes for a lot of different ways you can approach them. I try to think in terms of a calculated risk.

What do you know about the presentation cards and delta playtests? Those to me are the most interesting of all the cards.

Does this mean 10+ alpha and 10+ beta?

Probably and likely 10 or more of the alpha prototype, alpha, beta presentation and delta playtest ones as well. Id assume the unseen presentation ones will also be 10+ copies

Without even knowing anything official I’ve been assuming this from the get-go. It doesn’t make sense in my mind to do playtests runs to check mechanics of a game intended for worldwide distribution with only a couple sets.

There may be less than 10 sets of the presentations cards. More are available and other variants haven’t been made public yet. The asking price is very high compared to public auctions. There’s a disconnect between open market sales and their asking prices.

I lost money on the 151 Beta set purchase. That assumes everyone who won will pay.

Exciting stuff.

Come on Akabane, open the floodgates!

Sorry to hear you lost money on the purchase.

For what it’s worth, I really appreciated the IG live you did. It helped clear the air a bit for me and gave me the confidence to pick one up, so thank you!

Mad respect for shooting your shot. I hope you land on your feet

So alt was constantly sending me emails to type my name in to verify my bid. My guess is someone missed the email and alt retracted their bid.

As a relative newcomer, I just want to say I feel fortunate to have been around for this. With almost everything on the vintage side of this hobby so mature and understood - it’s awesome to be around for the introduction of something still new and unknown. I’m thankful for all the comments here investigating and pondering these, and for gemmintpokemon’s candid and informative interviews.

I think the playtests themselves are very cool and visually appealing items. Much better portrayals of Sugimori’s artwork than many of the official cards the art was reused for, with the clashing backgrounds and visual effects. These are simple and clean. The “mounted on card” format doesn’t bother me one bit, still looks like a Pokemon card to me.

I agree that it’s really cool to be apart of something from the very beginning. Particularly for cards that are so old that are just becoming public now! While these have stirred discussion and controversy, they have made the hobby fun and engaging for me.

Big moves in Playtest graded counts today:

Alpha Prototype 113 to 114
Alpha Playtest 102 to 107
Beta Playtest 439 to 591

Delta and Presentations remain a scarce as I expected. No movements there.

If anyone sees any new cards gets posted, please share them.

Did beta playtest just jump over 150? Wonder if that correlates to another set being graded.
