Pokemon Card Prototype Discussion Thread

Then perhaps they rotated the entire image to make the art straight. After all, they are playtest cards so maybe quality assurance wasn’t at the peak of interest. lol

Honestly, no clue and I would be a little concerned too.

Real prototype cards could have jagged angular lines because they were made quickly and in a primitive version of something like MS Word

You have to put these cards in the context they were made. This is what it looked liked to be using MS Word in ~1994

There was no anti-aliasing. Slight rotations would cause jagged lines.

I honestly was thinking about that. The jagged line makes sense for something made with somewhat ancient PCs: I can imagine that rotating a picture or misalign a pixel was really bad back in the days without anti-aliasing

Does this sheet count lol

Photoshop 3.0 for the win. Lol

First time I’ve seen it. We doubled the supply!

They misspelled “Sugimorori”, I’m sceptical.

Some more up on bids at pwcc/alt today. Also cool that Heritage has the pictures up now.

Even as someone who is fan of these I think this number is silly

A surprising amount and some good Pokémon’s too. It does feel like the “beta” cards are in greater supply than the rest. There’s even some dupes on Alt now. I’m wondering if I should just stop trying to win one and wait for a floor to be established. I’m not buying to flip, but I also don’t want FOMO to cause me to waste more money than needed.

Nido claims it’s a true 1 of 1, that’s why it went so high. Personally, I have doubts on that.

Inspired.

Jokes aside… I do like these prototypes etc, just cautious on the supply personally.

Epic. This is getting towards the price I would expect in 2020-2021. Wonder who the buyer was. It is a cool card, my only concern is how many exist along with when it was mounted.

I would too and def wouldn’t want to be first mover on that. If it is actually 1/1 then the price seems very very fair

If the buyer bid with 1/1 in mind, hope its not another prototype scenario.

If indeed 1/1, I agree that the price is very fair. A truly Museum worthy Pokemon item.

The fact that it’s the same art as the Topsun Charizard seems fitting.

This is another reason the way these have been released doesn’t sit well with me. Someone credible like Nido saying this implies an unbalanced amount of information available about the supply of these cards, and that info has been a question this whole time.

Very possible my opinion changes over time, but I couldn’t see myself paying more than a few hundred dollars for any of these. Probably would have been higher if the first impression hadn’t been so bad.

If someone says its 1/1, I would take it with a grain of salt

Yeah I don’t know what context nido said that in, could have been tongue in cheek. But generally speaking I put more weight in his comments than some rando in IG
