Years ago I sold an item for $1300. Weeks later I get an unauthorized transaction notice. I provided all the info the requested, and they determined through IP use that the transaction was indeed authorized by the account owner.
I got an email about days after Paypal sided with me that this guy had now filed a chargeback. PayPal said they would fight for me a provide the info they discovered to the card company but that it was unlikely the card company would rule against their client.
Long story short, I got #%@$ed out of $1300.
That is unlucky! Id have thought you could fight it to be honest.It is theft
@pokenoob I have “won” against multiple chargebacks. That being said, I am unsure if the buyer also “won” with their cc company as well. All I know is I got to keep the money paid to me in the end. The cc company may have very well took money from paypal to reimburse the buyer as well but if they did paypal covered it themselves.
If they tried to allow the money to be taken from me I wouldn’t have given up that fight easily. If you follow the terms for paypal seller protection you are supposed to be protected. Especially with that amount of money I would have fought that very hard and involved the authorities local to the buyer.

I dont know how long ago that was, but today paypal will give you the money out of their own pocket if they can’t win.
It was back around 2010. They lost and since I had already withdrawn the $$$ they put a -$1,300 balance on my account. Called me every day bugging me about it/threatening to send it to collections.
Small update:
PayPal sent me this email.
I guess they unfroze the money they are holding from me; however, in my paypal account the case is still under review?
Is it suppose to be that way, or is it suppose to be resolved?

Update: I thought this was long and done. I even called them on Jan 9th in regard to the last email I posted above to make sure the case was closed, but they sent me this email today around 7pm pst. So I am assuming the case was never closed till today…
Looks like it is long and done now, and i am protected by paypal. Thank goodness. On a side note the buyer won the case!?!? The heck! .
Sometimes paypal will refund the seller if you did everything right and they could not get the money back from the buyer.
That is part of their protection program.
Makes sense. Yeah i am glad i got to keep the money, cause obviously the buyer kept the card. But it sucks that she is going to get payed out the value of the card and keep the card free of cost. It is seriously cheating the system.
