Like everything else in life there is no clear cut answer.
Imagine this. I buy a sealed box. I weigh all the packs. I open all the packs, except 1 of the lightest which I put in my booster pack collection. On one hand I am being unethical for weighing the packs. On the other hand why should I waste a holo card on a booster pack collection?
What you need to understand Scott is these pieces of sh*t who weigh packs, regardless of how they try to rationalize it, don’t care about anybody else but themselves. They were brought up by garbage and turned into garbage and all they have influence over will turn out to be garbage too.
There is hope though. Any who actually listen to you Scott, and are influenced to start doing the right thing, we can give a lot of credit too.
I was going to weigh my fossil packs because I thought alot of people thought this was acceptable, like Smpratte has pointed out, many do. I won’t be weighing my fossil packs now. If someone bought a 1st edition shadowless booster box, it would be kind of crazy to open all the packs don’t you think? I would send all of the light packs to PSA, do you think that is the wrong thing to do?
I have heard from some of the Yugi pack weighers that there is a difference in weight between the various holo rarities, so it doesn’t kill weighing entirely. Just makes it slightly more difficult for those guys who do weigh Yugioh packs.
Didn’t you say before that we don’t call people names here on the U? Besides, if you hook up pack graders with some light packs so they can grade them, it really isn’t caring about just yourself
Even in YouTube videos with pack openings, it’s just about the standard now that you see the person having weighed the packs already before opening them. Kinda sucks
All we can do now is hope that any new comer to the site doesn’t get swayed to the pro-pack weighing side. otherwise long-term the hobby will be effected. How significant? No clue
Yeah thinking back, I definitely remember at least reading / hearing that the embossed Yugioh Ultimate Rares were not weighable because they actually weighed similar to a regular common card, so there’s definitely differences in weights between rarities. I’m sure the problem would translate in a similar way to Pokemon as well with EX’s and FA’s having differing weights as compared to regular holos, but… something has to be done to start taking steps in the right direction.
I don’t know if this combats it, per say, but here in Australia, there’s a couple of methods people use.
The first is that all booster boxes are kept behind glass doors. People order the amount they want and they’re chosen by the employee, then handed to the customer, obviously not weighed. So unless the employees are weighing packs (pretty unlikely but possible) then your odds are pretty good you’re not getting scammed.
The second is that the single booster packs are put into blisters. I don’t know if they can be weighed in this state, but I imagine it’d be pretty hard to.
The former still requires a bit of trust, imo, but at least it’s better than people coming in and grabbing packs themselves to be weighed.
I understand your point, but your still justifying it by wording it as if you’re doing collectors a favour. “add so many nice PSA 10’s to all your collections”.
You are selling people PSA 10’s for their collections. You are weighing to put yourself in that advantagoeous situation of being able to grade and resell while opening the minimum number of packs you can.
Yeah I don’t buy english, I only buy japanese booster boxes, but from what I remember when I was a kid here in STRAYA! They freakin put all the base set packs at target behind a huge wall glass, and I remember seeeing all the charizards, blastoise and Venusaur packs… Those was the days. I just don’t see why in 15+ Years they havn’t figured this shit out in America… Do they do this in UK, Canada? Anybody let us know how they do the things?
I’m pretty dam sure they did this at all the shops and everything was behind the counter or in a draw behind the counter.
As Scott said more diplomatically, the first stage of weighing packs is what’s wrong and every rationalization after that cannot be right. Just look what it leads to, people like this blastoise character.
I was the first to ever grade Pokemon packs. I sold many and all were unweighed…and I’m taking 1st Ed. Base. Wouldn’t it be better to know that your sealed pack collection were never in the hands of the pack weighers and were 100% legit? And when I grade more packs I’m just sending in sealed boxes and will get that designated on the label. Then all your Mickey Mouse packs will be rendered useless.
This is just so irritating especially since there’s so many otherwise good people here who just don’t get it.
Can someone contact Walmart and explain what one of their employees are doing (weighting packs) and why this severely disadvantage their own customers? Surely if they don’t want to do anything about this abhorrent behaviour, they should put a disclaimer in their shelves warning customers that their packs have potentially been weighted and may only contain common/uncommon cards.
Realistically speaking though, a large corporation like Walmart probably isn’t gonna give a damn about the intricacies of collecting children’s trading cards; their stock will sell regardless of whether or not its been tampered with due to the public being uninformed. I believe that if something were to be done that it’d have to be at the pack production level; make it so that weighing can’t be done in the first place instead of trying to prevent a lingering possibility. Voicing concerns to The Pokemon Company would have much better chance of yielding satisfactory results.
Possibly, but I also know that these massive corporations (I used to work for one) can sometimes be more inclined to care about staff theft than public theft. The company I worked for were literally more worried about the employee stealing a 50c lollipop than a member of the public simply walking out with a hundred dollars worth of stuff.
Obviously it depends on the store and whether or not they would actually consider it theft. A couple of calls though and I suspect it would be looked into. Places like this HATE complaints.
I didn’t know you did that with the packs Gary, and I believe you have been involved on a much deeper level than most/ ver passionate about the hobby. I am turned off by ever collecting a weigh’d PSA Graded paCK art collection because there probably all light packs, and mainly because there freakin expensive. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to grade all 396 Cards from a 1st edition shadowless booster box… I have gone over dis in my head before and You’d probably make more money if they got awesome grades, and plus complete the set for yourself without giving people shitpacks. On the blastoiserules1 matter, I have to say that he has helped me out so much, and alot of other people. I know I would still be slowly buying PSA 9’s and never ever getting any 10’s. It is absolutely insain how many PSA 10’s. There is no way I would have ever been able to obtain, or afford buying the PSA 10’s I have now, and there such rare cards. He is my friend and I talk to him alot, and I consider you to be my friend to, so it sucks to be in this situation is all. Never have weigh’d, never going to… But i bought scales for my 1st edition fossil box so I have to use them to Rip my sister off since i bought the box anyway. She will be informed of this, and she would only expect this much anyway since she isn’t collecting nd its going to be for nostalgic purposes.
Before this thread I thought it was okay to do what you want with your own box, but now I see multiple ways how it will effect others, whether it be sellers or collectors. After reading everything in this thread I just can’t be thinking about ever weighing/Spoiling these old boxes. I am only interested in the Old WOTC Boxes so it only makes sense to have fun and open all 36 Packs.
Remember guys we are only human, but we cannot lose touch of our humanity… By Human Nature and as a society we havn’t gotten that far yet, and a great man once said - This world we live in. People relying on each other’s mistakes to manipulate one another and use one another, even relate to one another. A warm, messy circle of Humanity. Hopefully everyone here can give my friendness @blastoiserules1 another chance.
