Paranoid about weighing.

Mr. Shitbloke goes into a Walmart or any store and starts weighing packs. He buys the pack that he wants and leaves the lighter packs behind. Does Mr. Shitbloke leave any sign or notice on the shelf for the next customer that says “These packs have been weight and may not contain any holo. Buy at your own risk.”? Doesn’t the next buyer also deserve to know that the cards were weighted?

Of course he does, I don’t think anybody said otherwise. But how about my fossil box.

@limeh No man Im going to grade the fossil holos, but now Im not sure what to do with the other packs. Who the hell reseals them?

edit: Sorry Im going blind from Uveitus.

The harm is with the honest people who do not weigh packs.

I sell packs on occasion, usually japanese as weighing is not really an option, and I get this message almost weekly, “are they weighed”. Sometimes after saying no, I receive, “I don’t believe you”.

Since weighed packs dominate the market, sellers who are honest and don’t weigh packs lose business.

How many times are you going to ask that?

You’ve already clearly weighed the packs, Everyone has already stated how they feel about it.

No one is going to tell you what to do because you shouldn’t of weighed them in the first place.

Here’s my answer:

  1. Throw the weighed packs away

  2. Open them and give away the cards free

There you go.

I said Resell* not Reseal*, I’d personally resell the packs as weighed but that’s just me. I’d make it clear they were weighed in my auctions though.

On another note I remember watching this video which is a real dick move (Not pokemon related but it’s still a TCG)

The problem is that the people declaring packs as weighed ruin the market for honest sellers who don’t weigh packs.

Also, if the person opened the pack, they know they would not make as much money. Either way, the most significant problem is that since weighed packs are so common, no one trusts loose packs, honest sellers who don’t weigh suffer.

Definitely! The distrust is because so many people weigh packs these days. I rarely mess with packs because of the whole weighed situation. It is a shame that someone who wants to sell the items as intended is the minority.

I havn’t even opened the box…

Yeah, well thats what I mean… It would be a total dick move if you didnt make it clear in the listing. I’m not sure what Im gonna do with my box now, but whatever I do it shall be fun.

Have you ever opened an old box? If so, Is that what you did? How about newer boxes you have opened? The reason why I asked so many times ( 2) Is because I’m trying to get as many opinions as I can because I am going to open it on the 30th. Many excite! there has been some really great opinions on here, and its hard to decide what to do considering the box cost 650AUD, and the reason I got was for grading in the first place. One that points out in particular is Sellers lose business because of the weigh’d pack market.

As a side note, it just occurred to me for Yu-Gi-Oh anyway, they are going to be putting guaranteed holofoils in every pack starting next year which should theoretically kill weighing. Perhaps TPCi will consider following suit in the future? Just food for thought.

Yes I’ve opened around 4-5 old boxes, all around $500-$750

And you know what I did? I opened every single pack and enjoy myself.

I didn’t worry about making my money back, I just opened them like I was a kid again.

Everyone is too concered about getting their money back, getting holo cards for PSA, and it just takes the fun out of it.

So if you’re in it for just the grading, then open them all?

lol

@swolepoke Yeah see thats the things I really wanted to just open them all with my sister when she comes up on 30th and have lots of fun, but the monrae seeps into my face, but at same time yeahhh should be enjoyed like when I was a kid. When I was a kid, me and my sister opened unlimited base set, then Jungle, fossil, rocket, one of the Gyms… I lost the interests at GYm and she lost interest after fossil. I ended up opening a couple of neo when I was 11 or 12. Now me and My sister open up 16 Booster boxes which I pay for because Im awesome of Japanese 1st ed every 3 months when new set is out… Only 7 more days till she be here so we can open all the things, and I have been waiting since they arrived at end of last month. I suppose I said wrong, that was not the only reason why I got it, as I have posted that I really want to relive the childhood memories of goodness, but I also want to grade.

THE MORAL STRUGGLE!

Thanks for your Input. I think I might weigh up the packs and put like 10 of the holo packs in my hudge pile and put 2 holo packs in my sisters

Best answer yet as to what to do with your box. Nothing unethical about screwing over a sibiling! Pokemonsyndicate beats his sister in holo obtaining, and all light packs are opened anyways. Win-win

Yeah I paid for it so its only fair that I get 10 holos  But also im letting her open with me, so that means after she pulls them I take them bad bois off her for grading

The discussion has been great. Tough topic. I am new here and I am really liking this place.

I think we can all agree on a few points. (At least 1-2)

1). Pack weighing is here to stay. It has been happening and is going to continue to happen no matter how anyone feels about it with all boxes currently in production. It will not end unless TPCi makes like a “holo” code card to offset the weight in packs containing non holos. (Good fix, yea or nay? Probably costs too much for them to want to do it.)

2). We all have our reasons for our position, and it’s unlikely any of our positions will change.

3). Selling weighed packs as unweighed, or weighing at a store, thereby lowering the odds for all future shoppers is definitely dishonest and selfish.

Having thought about it more I will continue weighing old boxes and stop weighing new ones. I usually buy a case at release and I’ll just open the whole thing and just have to sell more singles/mixed lots. With the old boxes, I really believe I do a net positive service to the community. Opening the whole box would make me lose so much money that I’d never get through them all, and it wouldn’t allow me to add so many nice PSA 10’s to all your collections. It also would not give pack art collectors an easier option of obtaining pack arts. The new stuff I am not grading anyways, it seems like only at release I can even make money on re-selling the cards out of them anyways.

This has been a good discussion!

The interesting, and perhaps worrying aspect is that people are mostly accepting of weighing packs. I wonder where the line will ultimately be drawn? Years ago, the majority of collectors would never weigh packs. It was not even something that was discussed or known by most of the community. As of right now, everyone has accepted packs on ebay being weighed. People are arguing for weighing packs in most cases. In fact, outside of the extremely obvious example of weighing in a store, people are largely on board.

It will be interesting to see if this unbecoming trend continues to the point of everyone accepting that most packs in stores are weighed. Since it is a grey area which is not illegal, and plenty of people go about it in different ways, there is so much room for subjective narration on why an individual weighs a pack.
