The only reason, and I mean THE ONLY REASON, to send to Probstein, is to shill your own auctions.
At this page you can also then click the hyperlinked, blurred bidder names and it should pull up their bid activity with that particular seller. Usually an 80-100% bid activity with Probstein will give you a clear idea of whether or not those accounts are shilling or just new ![]()
@Tapp, I wish it was that simple. As you know, good shill bidders will add bids onto a many items from different sellers to artificially lower the bid activity with their consigner.
I’m not suggesting that this was done, just that looking at the bid activity is an incomplete picture and easily manipulated by consignees. For all I know, these could be realized prices.
@swolepoke I can’t tell if you’re joking around or not. ![]()
In all reality im just tired of the FOMO pokemon generates out of nowhere these days.
FOMO goes both ways. Some cards have had buyouts and influencer attention that caused prices to skyrocket. But everything reaches an equilibrium and returns to normal (thank you gravity).
Case study - this Umbreon was hyped for being an European exclusive. It was selling for up to $100 on eBay. Now the price is ticking down with time and will continue to do so. Patience and buying at the right time will kick FOMO in the butt.
This one ended in a May auction block, then got re-listed this most recent block, and it ended at a much higher price ![]()
I am 100% serious.
CGC has confirmed that the “1998” date on the label is incorrect. Each label should be marked “1999”.
Looks like you were right. That Vaporeon was relisted recently. 🕵🏻♂️
The auction preceded the PSA article about these by a few days. I’d say the PSA article helped a lot.
No doubt it probably helped, but this shill bidding stuff is pretty lame. Just let the market decide or list them with buy it now pricing. So shady…
For me this is not a problem. I set the maximum price I can pay for the item and that’s it. If someone offers more, I won’t bid.
i never understood “buyouts” for modern cards that have hundreds of thousands of copies in mint condition in circulation. even if you were to succeed in buying it out you would realistically only own a small % of all the copies.
somehow it still happens though. Weird times
It looks like the buy it now price is here. This one is selling one of the white border Snorlax cards and is asking for $1200 ![]()
Meanwhile my cosmos jungle finds had no article, in fact I didn’t even get the credit from CGC for submitting and providing the WOTC employee info to help them authenticate them. But these white border cards, yep. kermit sipping tea
Cosmos Jungle cards??
This annoys me to all hell as I missed that card by $50 on eBay when they first popped up
Dang that sucks to hear. Was this one of the first batch of white border cards that Probstein sold?
Yep it went for $600 usd
