New to Collecting Grading Question VGA vs WATA

Hey everyone!!

new to collecting games, I have a sealed yellow version I want to send off to get graded, can I ask for your opinions on vga vs wata? On their reputation, value, anything else I should know =)

Thanks so much everyone!

I hear that VGA is the more popular choice and might be seen as the PSA out of the two. I hear that VGA grades more strictly than WATA as well. However, I want to add a very strong

BUT

Keep in mind that video game grading is a very niche industry and there isn’t actually a defined market for it like PSA graded cards for instance. I personally prefer WATA because I like the way the holder appeals. But I get hardcore game collector’s trying to convince me VGA is better due to reputation.

Do what you want with that information, I will close out saying that if I were to resell I’d probably go VGA, but if I wanted to collect I’d go WATA.

I am also a fan of WATA over VGA

VGA cases look better

VGA>WATA

For me VGA’s cases have more of an overall aesthetic. They’re more sleek and slim, plus I like the labels a whole lot more.

As mentioned before, VGA seems to be the hard grader of the two. I purchased a WATA 9.8, A+++ Seal, game (The second highest grade with this company) and a VGA 90 Game (the fourth highest grade)

The WATA 9.8 was covered with marks on the plastic, where the VGA 90 is immaculate with the slightest finger nail dent on a corner, with no other issues.

To each their own though.

This is a great question—
I recently just submitted my VGA sealed Pokémon Red to WATA for a crossover. My experience with VGA wasn’t the best. The customer service was poor (took weeks to get reply’s), website is very outdated and difficult to understand, and they will only grade sealed games.

So far, WATA has been great. Submitted my game 3 weeks ago, it’s already been graded and sent out. Website is very sleek and easy to understand. Customer service has been very responsive, and they grade everything (complete in box, sealed, cartridges, systems, etc…)

One of the main reasons I went with WATA, is mainly because of their partnership with Heritage Auctions. Record prices are being paid for Wata graded games (Super Mario Bros). Investors, I believe, view Wata as the flagship company and will pay a premium much like PSA in cards.

Anyways, we will see. I like how Wata has really tried to innovate and expand into an area that VGA never delved into.

Case wise: I prefer Wata over VGA. It just feels more modern and sleek. Wata grades the seal AND the box which is nice. They also include cool descriptions on the label. VGA just feels a little to outdated for my liking.

Not bagging on VGA, but just my thoughts.

Thank you guys for sharing your thoughts and experiences! =)

I just like the wata cases better because it has some cool info on it. I also like how wata has an individual grade for the seal as well as the case. VGA cases look cleaner though. I wouldn’t expect much of a difference between resale prices.

One thing is grading videogames has become quite popular. I have a few but non graded and still debating on grading it.

Thank for everyone’s input, I decided to go the WATA route =)

Good man. There’s a reason why everyone is buying vga just to cross to wata

What’s the reason?

SO glad I’ve found this thread, as I was also looking for opinions. I’ve been trying to find Halo 3 sealed and graded at a decent price/value. There are some VGA 80-85’s available, but I just cannot get over the aesthetics and information WATA provides as opposed to VGA’s underwhelming case. Unfortunately the only WATA graded Halo 3 on ebay that is available is a whopping 9.6 and the person is asking 3 G’s…

Wata is where the hype and money is

I’m trying to figure out how to submit a couple of games to VGA - do you have to have a membership? Does anyone know of group submissions like we can do for cards?

I’m not sure— when I sent through VGA, I only sent one game and navigating the website/order forms were very confusing.

Also, I just got this back from Wata.
This was a VGA 80+. Crossed over to a 9.4 and A seal (for those interested)
