Have a sealed N64 game (Donkey Kong 64) I want to get graded - looking for opinions on which company to use
Looking at copies on ebay, VGA cases look pretty foggy and unnecessarily thick. However, I like that the actual title/grade is labeled on top of the box, not on the side
Wata cases look clean and more visible. My preference is Wata but the grade on side of the box is kind of disappointing
Well, while I don’t like WATA, I would still grade games I wanted to sell with them. Their inflated grading numbers make things easier to sell to people who only care about grade numbers.
People more likely to buy a 9.4 than an 8, despite the 8 being better quality lol
That is what it seems, I can’t find the consensus of similar conditions between VGA and WATA. At least with PSA vs BGS, we know a rough scale of comparison in grades between both companies or a ranking order. Seems like VGA 85 gold is the same level of condition as WATA 9.4 and 9.8?
I wish VGA had a submission system that was more up to date like WATA, submitting with VGA feels like something out of the 90s, and their online form is broken on many browsers.
This concept is silly to me. I hear similar comparisons in the pokemon space regarding the grading companies. There is no “right” way of grading the condition of something so what does it mean to “inflate” your numbers? I could just as easily argue VGA is terrible because they grade too harshly and deflate their numbers.
Also, although I agree that when directly compared a WATA grade will be higher than a VGA grade, your example is quite off. A WATA 9.2 is closer to VGA 80 to VGA 85+ based on the crossover data presented here: www.watagames.com/learn/blog/post/wata-crossovers/
Why did they have to add A++ as the top? Just confusing, they should have just shifted everything back one level so A+ is the top, B is average and D is poor.
I mostly prefer VGA because their casings can be displayed horizontally and not vertically for N64.
This seems a little nit-picky but I do agree that VGA looks better with N64 games. And in my limited experience I also find that WATA cases are very prone to chipping. Something like 3/4 of the WATA games I have have chunks of plastic cracked off on the bottom. Overall I do like the design of the WATA cases and I think they have a general edge over VGA. I would choose WATA if I had something to grade
