@quuador is going to come school me, but does anyone have information on why international promos now have a Japanese sequence designation?

Pikachu in a “Batik shirt”

The “Pokemon Air Adventure” campaign is a way to encourage tourism post-covid. This campaign will visit 4 cities in Indonesia: Bali, Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Jakarta

In Pokemon GO:

In the “Pikachu’s Indonesia Journey” event which will be held in Bali on March 2-3 2024, trainers can catch Pikachu wearing a batik shirt. The Pikachu costume design was created in collaboration with Indonesian designer brand BATIK CONCEPT. Apparently more shirt designs have been created.

Batik-shirted Pikachu will appear in the wild in Bali, debuting on March 2 2024 and continuing to appear for a year,

The card

From what I’ve read it will available all over the place.

It sounds like there will be merchandise for sale at events and also at Living World Denpasar shopping center (largest mall in Bali) from February 21 to March 3, 2024.

According to @rabby250 it was available at the “Pokémon TCG Academia” at Central Market PIK running February 1-14, 2024

“You can get one at every Pokémon event in your city. You can also get this card in your favorite stores later”

TLDR: Indonesia is in Asia so they follow TPC release rules instead of TPCi.

TPCi only manages the Pokémon franchise outside Asia. The franchise is managed by different entities in different regions in Asia:

  • The Pokémon Company (TPC) manages the franchise in Japan directly.
  • TPC also manages the franchise in several Asian regions through a program called “Pokémon Asia”:
    • Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau
    • Thailand
    • Indonesia
    • Singapore, Malaysia, part of Hong Kong and Philippines (special regions - see below)
  • Pokémon Korea manages the franchise in South Korea.
  • Pokémon Shanghai manages the franchise in Mainland China.

All of Asia (except the special regions) follows the same TCG release managing mechanisms by TPC, which means:

  • Expansion marks are in Japanese format (SV1, SV2, SV3 etc. instead of SVI, PAL, OBF etc.)
  • Promo cards of different languages do NOT share the same set list - 101/SV-P in Indonesian isn’t the same card as 101/SV-P in Japanese, 101/SV-P in Traditional Chinese and such.

Special case: Singapore, Malaysia, part of Hong Kong and Philippines either preferred cards in English or don’t have localized TCG products, so in these regions TPC released English TPCi products which means they will have the same cards as in US or UK. However they have the same organized play system as other Asian regions instead of Play! Pokémon.

Indonesian has always been following the Japanese numbering, as well as silver card borders. Only the back is international.

Same applies to Thai, T. Chinese and S. Chinese.

EDIT: Which I now see @rabby250 already mentioned above.

Greetz,
