New CGC prices released

The front, yes. Back, no.

There doesn’t seem to be any edge/bumper at the back to hold the card from touching the back surface.

That is not true. You can read the patent here and find that they state that the card is not touching either inner surface.

In the context of a baseball card, the item recesses 22 might be provided with peripheral ridges 26 which define a rectangular area into which an object, having the dimensions of a sports memorabilia card, would be inserted. The peripheral ridges 26 would then function to retain the card against lateral movement even when the memorabilia product is manipulated and/or shaken. Further, the peripheral ridges 26 are molded with a thickness dimension slightly greater than the thickness dimension of a conventional sports memorabilia card. As the front and rear portions of the housing brought into contact with one another, the item recesses 22 and peripheral rails 26 define a volume within which the item is enclosed, without either housing portion contacting the item or otherwise applying pressure to item so as to deform or degrade it.

For people who need a visual representation like me, here’s one that I drew in paint (a modern Picasso, I know) where the blue is the card and the black is the inner case.

It’s like this on all 4 sides of the card so the only part that actually touches the case is the edges.

Thanks @Dyl for the patent link. How does it work if one of the card edges is away from the peripheral ridge? What’s holding the left edge of the card?

I believe that the card can move back and forth laterally, but the other three peripheral ridges will prevent the surfaces of the card from touching the case.

It’s touching the other ones. It only needs to be touching two that are parallel to each other.

I wondered the exact same thing at first when I saw the patent Dyl linked so I picked up my slabs and looked real close to understand how they were just floating there. It’s quite hard to see

Hmm. From what I see the card can only touch 2 perpendicular ridges at once, for e.g, top left, Bottom right, top right, bottom left.

I think as long as it’s touching two of them it’s good because of how rigid the cards are and how close the inner part of the case is

I’ve got a few cards that are touching the surface of the PSA case. When I got them back from grading I was thinking it was some sort of damage, but after fiddling with the case and giving it a few hard taps I saw the problem go away. That’s when I realized the card was actually touching the surface of the case. I haven’t had it happen on a Pokemon card before, but here are a few pics of a One Piece card I just tapped to mostly get rid of the surface touching. The textured surface of some of the One Piece parallels has a sort of stickiness to them so I’m guessing the cards touch the surface during the casing process and stick onto the case.

First time I’ve seen a new 9.5. Pretty confident this won’t sell for anything close to his asking price lol.

Not with that feedback score lol

Well that too. But he’s also trying to sell for old 9.5 price

The font and centering on that label looks pretty good though

Unlike the card itself amirite?

Yeah I agree the text centering looks good here.

I think we’re going to see how prices are effected in the next few weeks/months. I think the big indicators will be when these new certs go up for auction at big sites like PWCC

Yeah I need to get my new 10s sold off before then lol

Are you keeping the Lugia in the blue case?

My Pristine needs a new slab anyways because it’s got some deep scratches so I’m going to relabel.

I don’t get how this Gem Mint 10 Slowking is still sitting at 995 with no bids. A CGC 9.5 is up to like 1200 right now from probstein lol

Maybe not enough exposure?

I wonder what these will end up at

Historically, starting at a high price suggests to the buyer that’s the price you are willing to take and it takes away all the fun/fomo/bad choices of bidding against others like a 99 cent auction has
