Hello everyone.
So I’m doing my first submission for grading. After doing some internal debating about whether to send to PSA or BGS, I have to say that as much as I think PSA might be the more dependable company overall for grades, I really enjoy the aesthetic of the BGS Black Label “Pristine” which is what I’m going for.
I don’t suspect that I’ll have any other cards graded in the near future, so I wanted to do something special for my favorite artwork of Gyarados. But I’m having a bit of difficulty of setting down the “Set Name” as the card is a promo and hoping more experienced graders could help.

The English Card: This came as a XY Black Star Promo Prerelease for the Ancient Origins set.
The Japanese Card: This came as a Promotional card given out during the promotional “Gyarados Battle” and held in commemoration of the opening of Pokemon Center Hiroshima.
So far the only things I’ve thought about this is the following:
English: XY Black Star Ancient Origins Prerelease Promo
Japanese: XY-P Pokemon Center Hiroshima Promo
Would this be an appropriate set name? When it comes to promos, does anyone find there’s a general rule of practice when grading and naming set names?
Let me know what you guys think as I want to do this right.
Easy mate.
English: XY Promo Pre-Release
Japanese: XY Promo Gyarados Battle

I guess I’m over-complicating it. Haha.
Just a question on the Japanese one. I feel a lot of people are more apt to call the card “Pokemon Center Hiroshima” instead of Gyarados Battle, since the card even has it on the picture. Is there a reason why you think Gyarados Battle is more appropriate?
Edit: Also, do you specify that the Japanese card is “Japanese” or do they do that for you? If you do have to specify, where do you put that on the form?
You always specify the language, as for the label, it’s far more likely to be called just “Promo Pokemon Center” rather than adding the Hiroshima part. Hence why I think you should push something a little nicer for your label.
That being said my limited experience is with what PSA does, not BGS. Feel free to try it however you want it to look mate =)

I don’t have enough experience with the BGS system of classifying cards. However I would note that a BGS Black Label is one of that most difficult things to achieve in the hobby. All four subgrades must be a perfect ‘10’ in order to receive the black label. I would be very surprised if you were able to get it on your first submission, it may require purchasing more copies of a card I know you have already worked very hard (and spent a good amount of money) to get.

@ozenigma yeah I’ll play around with it a bit more. See where I go with it. Thanks so much for tue solid advice.
@fourthstartcg exactly. I know it’s incredibly difficult to get which is the reason I decided to try for it. I don’t forsee myself really grading anything In the future unless it’s the SNAP card. So I figured why not set my eyes for the prize? Because I’m definitely not going to spend money on grading my collection. Haha. But I appreciate the warning. Just going to see how lucky I get.
