Need Advice: PSA 9 Psyduck Munch vs PSA 10 Rowlet Munch

Hey everyone,

I’m in the market for a new slab and I’ve narrowed it down to two options from the Munch: A Retrospective series:

  • Psyduck Munch in PSA 9

  • Rowlet Munch in PSA 10

I really like both cards, but I’m torn on what would be the smarter pickup. On one hand, Psyduck is more iconic and arguably has stronger long-term appeal, but it’s only a PSA 9. On the other hand, Rowlet is super clean in a PSA 10, but maybe doesn’t have the same recognition or demand as Psyduck.

For those of you who collect or have experience with the Munch promos:

  • Would you go for the more popular Pokémon in a PSA 9?

  • Or stick with the Gem Mint 10, even if it’s Rowlet?

Curious to hear your opinions and reasoning—whether it’s about long-term value, collectability, or just personal preference.

Thanks in advance!

Those are fightin’ words. I think you know what I’d choose. :owl:

Here’s the pop report to consider. Just so you know, prices these days are many multiples higher than what they were just a year ago. It may be wise to wait for things to calm down.

I forgot to come back to this post and answer (since you didn’t get many responses) but figured I’d give my two cents :slightly_smiling_face:

This is solely a personal preference thing, but there is no question in my mind I would choose the Psyduck, mainly because that card is one of my favorite cards in the entire hobby. I love everything about it: one of my favorite Pokemon, my favorite artist. great Pokemon cameos (don’t forget the one under the bridge!), the Japanese exclusivity, the way in which it was released, the Munch art tie-in, the color palette on the card, etc. The card is just a thing of beauty.

Now, in terms of which is smarter, that is naturally going to depend on what you define as smart. Ultimately you need to prioritize what matters to you: grade, species, artwork, potential future value, cost basis, etc. In general, I think all of the Scream cards will do well in the future market simply because they are just so good. How much each will grow in comparison to each other is anyone’s guess; to your point, I do think Rowlet lags slightly because the other species in the series are more liked, as well as the fact that Rowlet achieves high grades the easiest (i.e. highest 10 rate). I also think it is plausible for the PSA 9 Psyduck price to continue to steadily climb since achieving a 10 is so much harder, so naturally when the 10 price climbs the 9 price will continue to climb alongside it. That said, the Rowlet card is fantastic and even cooler as a PSA 10, so for personal or collection value, there truly is no wrong answer.

Hopefully that gives you some things to think about. Best of luck with your decision! :pikahappy:
