The hunt is over. Here is the proof of its existence.

Metapod Korean Base Set Unlimited.

Very cool to see!

As an anecdote, it personally took me 10 booster packs to pull select cards like this from a separate Base set made around the same time. Given how rare the packs are, it makes a lot of sense why the pop is near zero. I wonder how many Korean packs were ever printed? It has to be low hundreds, if that.

By Wednesday I received my missing Portuguese TCG cards I was missing.

100% completed, including “sealed” cards like Chinese S or unpeeled vending machine sheet… complete decks, etc.

Having all the topps and regular “tcg”-size cardboard items, I’m just looking for all Bandai Kids variations.

Thank you everyone from E4 that helped me!

Massive congrats, that’s absolutely huge! Tcg alone is naturally near impossible job to do as the korean unlimited has shown but all topps too is also extremely impressive with all the series 1 variants :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

There are other TCG cards also difficult (not as much as the Korean unlimited)… My advice to anyone who collects species cards: as soon as a new set includes a card featuring your Pokémon, start collecting all the language versions right away. Because after just a year and a half, people tend to throw away cards in languages like Thai, Indonesian, Portuguese, and both Chinese versions—or they don’t even bother to check if they have them.

Totally agree …
The best time to get Latin American Spanish is during PreRelease.
Build & Battle Boxes distributed during PreRelease in Latin America are in this language. I think that’s the best time to get your cards in this language …

After that, the difficulty increases to ridiculous levels … :skull:

Congrats for the 100% Metapod collection!!! It’s an interesting goal that requires a lot of dedication and effort … Totally proud of your achievement!!! :100:

Amazing congratulations!!!

Big congrats! You’re just the fourth person I’m aware of completing a Pokémon TCG species collection across all languages, and the first for a gen 1 Pokémon (the others I’m aware of are Seviper; Togepi; and Staraptor). That’s by no means a small feat! People often underestimate how much time the last 5-10 pesky cards can take.

And having all 35 (if I counted correctly :thinking: ) 38 (EDIT: I did, in fact, not count correctly) Metapod Topps cards on top of that is impressive as well. There are so many minor variants in Topps.

Thank you so much!!!

I’m quite confused with the 35 topps. Please let me know if I’m missing any:

  1. English UK Non Holo

  4. Eng US 1st Holo
  5. Eng US 1st Rainbow Holo
  6. Eng US 2nd Non Holo
  7. Eng US 2nd Holo
  8. Eng US 2nd Rainbow Holo
  9. Eng US 3rd Non Holo
  10. Eng US 3rd Holo
  11. Eng US 3rd Rainbow Holo
  12. Eng US 4th Non Holo
  13. Eng US 4th Holo

I could be missing SP Lat Holo, but cant confirm it exists, the same applies to Eng US 5th Holo (black logo + smooth RAINBOW holo). I will update the list if I find them, but virtually this list should be the 100%… (so this is when somebody replies to this post with a pic of any of these two hahaha)

You possibly have all of them. I’m not too well-versed on Topps tbch, and I simply counted the Metapod in this guide when I made my earlier comment: Topps Collecting Guide. :person_shrugging:

I actually made a few mistakes in my counts however, so I think there are 38 + 2 unconfirmed mentioned in the article:

  • 15x English Series 1 (or 17x, with numbers 6 and 11 as additional unconfirmed bonuses);
  • 1x English Die-Cut from Series 2;
  • 2x English Puzzle/Sticker from First Movie series;
  • 4x English Chrome Series;
  • 2x each (non-holo + Silver holo) in French, German, Italian, Spain Spanish, LA Spanish, Portuguese for Series 1;
  • 1x each (non-holo Die-Cut) in French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish for Series 2.

My guide needs some serious updating.

There is a holo set for both dialects of Spanish. I have all 4 Spanish metapods and I can provide you pictures as proof.

There is rainbow for French, italian, German, and Spain Spainish but it’s much less apparent and sometimes difficult to say if there are two distinct silver and rainbow sets or more of a range of how much rainbow the cards has.

There is a 5th print rainbow set as well although it is an error set of 3rd print rainbow where very few cards somehow made it through without getting the debossing pattern. Could be present in the other prints but ive only confirmed it with 3rd print and I have just 2 cards from this error set.

The silver 5th print is not actually the 5th chronologically and actually comes in between the blue and black logo prints amd full boxes of these exist so it was more intentional.

There’s also a common error set for the US blue logo rainbow where the pokemon has a significant holo bleed. I have maybe 40 of theses cards but no metapod at the moment. There are some weird layer errors with silver and other things but that is the most common one.

There are 4 silver ray variants as well. I have some photos I can provide you to show you the difference

There are also some error spectra cards where the spectra designating text on the back is missing. I think there are some other errors like this but that seems to be the most common.

I need to grade mine. The quality of the USA cards is really nice and the colors are more saturated.

Congratulations my friend. Very happy for your amazing accomplishment. Not only TCG but also the Topps. I was privileged to see some of your collection in person and your enthusiasm for all things Metapod and also curating a museum worthy collection is super inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers!
