Mercari announces cooperation agreement with Pokemon

Then why don’t they “print to demand” like they’ve always so proudly proclaimed?

Or is their definition of “print to demand” not really printing to demand?

Come on, it’s a free market. They should learn to respect it.

If I spent thousands of dollars on 151 boxes, and finally pulling that waifu card, selling it for that price is considered modest of me.

I go back and forth on whether to pursue them. They cost a pretty penny and those cards are TOUGH to find. I do follow them on as a saved search Mercari. I’m probably a couple years from buying them unless someone lists a full set on Mercari well below FMV and I’m lucky enough to be the one who catches them. I do own the Hitmonchan Magikarp, which doesn’t say much.

And yeah that Jirachi Cherubi copy that was listed was such a great price.

From a business perspective printing to demand is not good since it means having left over product on the shelves. People on the internet love to say how badly they want something, but when they dont show up the stores without any money to buy anything, why would a company ever want to do print to demand?

Considering that every pokemon product is always in demand, its impossible to always have print to demand. There is just some sets that people will have to miss out on since the Pokemon international would be printing some of the same sets forever. They are not going to have the printers running for life just so someone doesnt miss out on every set, its just not feasible.

I went to Target recently and there is just so much product rotting on shelves probably because Pokemon listened to people on the internet and overprinted product. Well now nobody wants to buy the product and people on the internet are happy they arent missing out but now Pokemon/MJ holdings isnt moving any product. Maybe its a really bad idea to listen to what people on the internet are saying since people on the internet do not care about your business or if your making money or not.

I think its more that they are already printing as fast as they can so no matter what they do, they are unable to meet demand. With semi monthly sets it makes it even tougher. Its not like the printers aren’t running constantly. Doesnt help when foreign demand for JP cards is higher than its been in some time.

unpopular opinion:
sometimes it’s better to not meet the printing demand.

Unpopular on the internet yes, not so unpopular with store owners. They dont like stuff sitting on shelves not selling. What business wants a bunch of product for people to stare at it and not buy?

Agreed, I don’t think this message should appear for individual cards.
Booster boxes are another story though, especially those which are being printed to demand. I would hate to pay inflated prices on Mercari because I somehow missed the announcement that plenty of product will become available.

As an aside, I wonder which keywords triggered the filter in this case? A quick look at some random high priced SARs did not reveal any further warnings to me.
