Mega Victreebel Revealed

Well I tried… It’s such an odd design choice.

I think my problem with it is the mouth. It looks like a clown mouth. If I cover the mouth part, it still reminds me of Victreebel in a good way.

Gear 5 Design vs Actual Design in a pokemon Nutshell

We know this is Nnintendo pokemon, so no one’s actually gonna die, but I really would like a game like this but rated at LEAST T for non-graphic violence and an occasional haunter possession.

It’s description also mentions that the acid is strong enough to ‘melt concrete and steel’. Wonder if its ability will negate steel-type pokemon’s usual immunity to poison type attacks / poison status effects.

this just feels like a 4th evolution stage as opposed to a distinct mega pokemon, id take what gamefreak came up with any day over this safe but boring design

I kinda feel like it’s a weird devolution. Becoming overpowered, and less functional, or even self-destructive… but that’s kinda how several of the Megas are… Which is also why I love the mechanic.

Glalie: Jaw is broken by energy
Alakazam: Glassiest glass canon ever.
Houndoom: Literally melting itself

This illustration on reddit helped me to understand the direction of the design.

Am I the only one who thinks that it looks like a sex toy or bong?

It looks like something you have to avoid getting squashed by in a Mario game.

Why is victreebel hanging itself?

Awful imo. Following the Dragonite though, not a surprise.

Would have looked better being more aggressive i.e. a bunch of Victreebel together as one big plant or something.

Totally agree with everyone here, this mega really sucks. But just a friendly reminder: Pokémon’s main target audience is 10-year-old kids, from a completely different generation than most of us.
That’s the only explanation I can find for these atrocities.

I find this interesting. When we were kids, we used to like the most cool and aura farming creatures. Almost every fanart was edgy and over the top, like a competition to create the most badass over-designed Mega for our favorite Pokemon

It almost feels the opposite now: since Pokemon is enjoyed by a large adult audience, I’m noticing a trend toward meme, silly or goofy designs even for “strong” Pokemon. Strange.

It means they never changed their core philosophy on designing family friendly Pokémon for the current younger generation that might find these new iterations fun. Adults on the other hand are left behind. It’s cyclical and one day the younger generation will grow up to be adults with the same disgruntled reaction we do when new Pokémon designs are no longer made for them
