I recently was able to pick up the Master Kit CD
Read more on bulbapedia
Surprisingly, I haven’t found many details about the CD itself other than what is mentioned on bulbapedia
a CD-ROM which includes an extensive card list covering all expansion sets from Expansion Pack to Mirage Forest.
Anywho, one usb CD drive purchase later and I now have some more details to share about what is all on the CD!
Home Screen
Upon loading the CD an app launches and the Home Screen has two options: How to Play or Card & Deckbuilder. Some light music plays in the background.
How to Play
The How to Play part takes you menu with a few different options. You can learn the rules, look up cards, participate in a first battle, look at your unlocked presents, or visit the link corner with a list of online urls.
Unlocks
One neat thing is that when you go through the tutorial you unlock “Presents”!
First Present
The first present unlocked are a pair of wallpapers.
Here are the wallpapers:
This art is also used for the pack & booster box art from Flight of Legends (拡張パック「伝説の飛翔」)
Second Present
The second present is a little app that changes a few things about your computer:
- Changes your mouse pointer to a Pikachu Sprite
- Changes some folder icons on your computer
- And it modifies your wallpaper
Third Present
The third present is a little clock app that you can swap out the clockfaces with different Pokémon. You can also set an alarm.
Card database
Last but not least included on the CD is a card database app. You can browse the collection of cards, mark off which cards are in your collection, make half or full 60 card decks, export and import decks, as well as check if a deck is legal.
When you hover over a card, its preview shows up on the right.
Deck Creator
I hope you liked the more in depth overview of what is all on the CD. The wallpapers are incredible and its awesome to see such old art in high resolution. I’ve added more images over on pidgi.net. I’ve also been able to extract all the card assets which I will share in the future (though they are pretty low res unfortunately).
Know of any other old Japanese products that have CDs? Let me know! I’d like to collect them and share the findings with the community.
