List of All Known TCG Major Holo Shift Cards (Misaligned Holos)

Qwachansey’s clefable had that neat holo edge but first of white edge for me too! Still amazes me how amazing stuff constantly keeps surfacing after all the years. Can’t imagine getting bored of pokemon since if a new update or set from tpc isn’t that interesting then a new update from vintage stuff suddenly appears

That is the base white layer that prevents holo from bleeding through the ink. You wouldn’t see that white section on a WoTC holo shift because of the yellow borders. When the borders are holo (i.e., no ink printed over it), you can see the misaligned base white layer perfectly clear.

Awesome card for sure!

Pretty sure the “white top” is just the standard nonholo silver border

???

You can see the shift of the white layer pushed higher on the bottom of the card too.

I think we are saying two different but accurate things. I’m saying the top circle is not “white” its the silver non-holo border colour. Your explanation of how holo shifts happen in general is correct.

You think the Japanese white base layer is the same color as their silver borders? Could be. Maybe @heichung can provide a side-by-side comparison with a silver border card.

Can confirm they are the same color!
Apologies for the poorly taken photo lol.

I don’t think this is what pfm meant.

As you mentioned in your first comment, a white layer prevents holo from bleeding through the ink, which is indeed correct. (https://youtu.be/15gsDW6i97c?t=316 5:16-11:23).

But, this white layer is just an extra layer below the actual card colors. And the silver borders of the Japanese ex era cards are printed on top of this white color layer as part of the CYMK color layers.

When the borders are holo (i.e., no ink printed over it)

The underlined part in your quote above is incorrect, and probably caused pfm to comment. There is still ink printed on top of the holofoil, since the entire card is printed in color, including the silver borders.
You probably meant to say: (i.e. no white anti-holofoil ink printed over it), or something along those lines. There is still ink printed over it, just not the white ink that prevents Holofoil.

For this Mewtwo ex, the entire CYMK color layers including silver borders are printed just fine. Only the white anti-holofoil layer is printed at an off-set, similar as the Holo Shift examples in the linked video, causing this error.

Ooh, that’s a nice one, Congrats! And I believe there is around 15 German Neo Destiny holo shifts that have been discovered so far unless you were talking about unique cards.
