Lillie 397/SM-P Extra Battle Day Promo is up for Auction

It’s the same seller in the first and third screenshot. Likely never actually sold it the first time around, or never even has the card to start with.

Yup, I marked them as seller A in that scenario.
The bids on seller B auction doesn’t make sense. A 0 feedback bid 100k, someone else bid 5 times at the end. I am skeptical of it until the sale is confirmed paid

On second thought, even if the sale is confirmed paid, do we know that the seller didn’t just sell to an accomplice? The last guy bidding 5 times in a row is weird.

This ends the thread for me. The shady bidding at the end to me now reeks of the seller not actually owning the card and making sure their friend/alt account won. The end price means absolutely nothing.

Naked misty isn’t the same. We were all kids when naked misty was released, not 20-30 year old men. Also the allure was the fact it was banned. If it were never banned it wouldn’t have had the same demand. Either way naked misty isn’t selling for 100k or even moving at all in price; which is more to the point how there is something exclusively creepy to waifus.

My comment wasn’t about naked Misty. I meant in general if there was an old style Misty card selling for that price you guys probably wouldn’t care.

Let’s be real here anyone with that kinda money who’s into little girls is probably doing something far more nonferrous than spending 5-6 figures on a pokemon card. Just feels like you guys are manufacturing a boogeyman out of nothing cause you can’t rationalize the massive price pump.

I mean heck we’ve already seen a " waifu" card reach $100k+ with Yugioh’s G3-11 DMG & no one talked about that being creepy

Most Waifu cards in Yu-Gi-Oh and Weiss are appropriately aged (18+). Lillie is 11.

Ya but Lillie isn’t drawn in a sexualized or lewd way. Anyone viewing Lillie in that way won’t get any satisfaction from buying a 5-6 figure card…

You’d have to have severe p*rn addiction or mental issues in general to sexualize pokemon cards. I really can’t see people like that forking out that kinda money on extremely tamed pokemon card art when you have commissions or just print the art.

I never thought I’d feel gaslit saying collecting underage girls is creepy. I don’t know if I want to be in this timeline.

I think that’s exactly the point. These people sexualising these 11 year old characters as such do have a problem, be that a porn/cp addiction or what have you. It’s quite clearly rife in Japan and even if you’re here just on holiday you’ll notice it. It’s disgusting, plain and simple. I don’t have a problem with the card reaching 100k, and props to anyone who made bank through it, but I have a problem with the reasoning behind it. It’s a shame, but it’s not a secret that Japan has this dark side.

Who are ‘‘these people’’… All this talk about sexualizing waifus, I have never even seen any evidence of this happening. I’m sure there is some out there, but you’re all acting like this is some sort of widespread phenomenon. Am I just missing something here?

Why aren’t the male waifus the same price?

Isn’t this concerning enough?

Not like anything will change. Japan’s love for moe female characters and waifu will stay. Nothing we can do about it.

So that is supposed to be evidence that the prices of waifus are high because they’re being sexualized by collectors?

I guess it could be considered concerning yes, but not evidence. I’m only seeing assumptions here… To be clear, I think you guys are right about it happening. I’m just very sceptical of how widespread it is, and its effect on the market. I honestly think it’s more likely that the waifu craze is simply the result of Japanese culture (moe) + hype/market manipulation.

I’m genuinely curious for the reason why only female trainers have exploded in price?

Feel free to define this so most Westerners understand

I guess you are just stopping at “japanese culture”. Where others are picking apart the reasons why, some of those reasons being darker apples. :apple: :upside_down_face:

I don’t know anything about it by the way, just something other people have mentioned in this whole discussion.
