As a Korean collector, I’d like to share some information about the Ditto promo card.
First, the card was distributed one per verified phone number, meaning if you purchased multiple accounts with verified numbers, you could claim several cards on your own. However, since each account could only receive one card, there was a limit to how many you could actually get.
As of today (May 18), the Ditto card is no longer being distributed. The event officially ended today.
It’s nearly impossible to know the exact number of cards printed. In the early days of the event, thousands were released daily, and later reports suggest around 3,000 were distributed per day. It’s estimated that between 100,000 and 150,000 cards were released in total.
One notable characteristic of the Ditto promo card is its poor front surface quality and off-centered back, which makes it very difficult to receive a PSA 10 grade.
Now that the event is over, I thought it was a good time to share this overview.
We will see in the coming months. Because it’s modern, I feel people are more scrutinous on which Ditto promos they want to send to guarantee that 10. And based on your estimate of 100,000 - 150,000 they should be able to clear 5,000 PSA 10s like most modern promos even if they are hard to grade
I don’t think the Ditto cards will reach a PSA 10 population of 5,000. I personally opened around 1,000 packs and found only 200 to 300 cards that appeared mint, and even those might not qualify for a PSA 10 grade.
Sure, it could still reach 5,000 like you said. But I’m regarding large portion of the cards probably ended up with people who aren’t even Pokémon collectors, so many of them might not even know what PSA is.
Since the cards were released in Korea, and Korean collectors generally don’t tend to submit cards to PSA, the population will likely remain low—probably around 1,000.
I’m just making a prediction, based on how the Korean Pokémon market has behaved in the past.
It’s clear that more than 100,000 packs were distributed, considering I alone purchased 3,000 to 4,000 packs.
Right now, the promo is the most available it will ever be in its history. Even if it is hard to grade, 10% of 150,000 is still 15,000 submitted. It is easy to obtain (free or secondary) and easy to submit. Unlike previous Korean promos, global interest is much higher for this one particularly because it’s an exclusive Ditto
Do you think it’s worth enough to grade? I have no idea whether it’s worth enough to grade. In Korea, grading fee is quite more expensive than its price.
Grade to own a PSA 10? sure
Grade to sell a PSA 10? do it soon. If it turns out there are too many PSA 10s, they will flood the market, PSA 10s will also be easy to obtain and the price will quickly correct closer to ungraded + grading cost
I think the price might go up in 2 to 3 weeks.
Maybe even as early as late next week.
So far, the price has dropped mainly because of the huge supply in Korea. But since no more stock will be released, I think once the current inventory dries up, the price will start to rise.
There’s still a decent amount left in Korea due to the large initial supply, but once that’s gone, I believe the price will climb—probably in 1 to 2 weeks, or 3 weeks at the latest.
Because in your posts you are trying to tell people that you think this card is going to be hard to get a good grade while also revealing that you have 1000 copies, a number more like scalpers trying to hoard and flip instead of collectors trying to source for their collection.
This combination gives people a negative feeling of you trying to imply that good grades warrant decent prices so that later you can sell them at your “justified” higher prices and earn more. This is called shilling and is not welcomed on forums focused on collecting.
I’m not writing here to talk about this though…
If that’s the 1000 copies you own, I’m more concerned on you securing and degrading the cards with rubber bands.
Ah, I see. Thank you for letting me know. Just to clarify, I’ve spent over $100,000 on Korean ADV/Base cards — which really aren’t profitable — so it’s definitely not about the money. I’ve opened over 40 boxes combined of ADV and Base (with Base being a much smaller portion, of course).
I’m not sure if I understood “shilling” correctly, but I can see how my post might’ve come across that way.
Also, since I communicate through a translator, my intentions might not always come through as clearly as I’d like.
For the record, I’ve submitted hundreds of cards for grading, but not even a hundred of them were to PSA. Most were graded through a small Korean company called BRG. I think I’ll probably go with them again this time.
And as far as I know, PSA submissions from Korea were basically blocked due to customs issues. Not sure if that’s changed recently.
Anyway, thanks for helping me understand the forum atmosphere. I’ll be more mindful about what I post regarding grading going forward.
I noticed sales on eBay creeping up too by a few dollars to just above $60 again. But surely listings like these will lower prices for at least a little bit, right?
