JoshB's Collection Thread
To suitably lower expectations, I’ll start with the disclaimer that I’m a degenerate casual, who, for reasons unknown, is still allowed to post so frivolously and actively on this forum. Pokémon Card collecting is certainly not my highest priority, to the point where I still find a great deal of humour in the fact that we romanticize and dissect the Hahbee™ as much as we do.
Before I get banned or @mrbubbles threatens my life (we all know he’s secretly a psychopath), here’s my collection.
In tRu FiRsT style, I’m doing NR before 1st edition English. Approx 85% complete. Don’t want to crack the graded Charizard in case of stonks to preserve condition, so I placeholdered a regular pleb rarity version in the binder itself. I want another, ungraded, NR Charizard to replace it with, but I don’t want to spend money on it so I guess it’s not happening any time soon. Gyarados is on the way in the post as of writing. The numbering of this set is stupid so I don’t know how best to organise the binder. Will update as I progress/finish.
(Thank you @Frosty.Puppy, @eeveeteam, @mrbubbles, @woolsluk, @lolzicost and @gomos for helping me bring this together at a reasonable cost. AKA scammed you all, hah!)
I eventually want a full 1st Edition Base Set graded holo collection; this is what I have so far. God knows when I’ll buy any more.
That concludes the parts of my collection that have any kind of organisation.
I’ve always enjoyed Shadowless & 1st ed Base because of the history, nostalgia, and the deeper, richer colour pallette and holo compared with Base Unlimited. My collection of Shadowless is comprised mainly of drunken impulse buys and for some reason multiple copies of Ninetales that I don’t remember buying, though presumably it was because it’s one of my most nostalgic Base Set cards, with each click representing a futile, neurotic grab for the past. I’ll maybe do a binder or something eventually IDFK.
I bought and graded my Indigo Plateau in 2021. It probably shouldn’t have gotten the 10, but what do PSA know lmao. I have many Japanese promos from multiple eras in various states of organisation, but this is the only one I connected to enough to consider worth making part of my collection.
Self-explanatory; S-tier art, quirky method of acquisition. I also have a couple of the original stamp sheets too which some very naughty Japanese sellers shouldn’t have included with the sale ![]()
I opened a Terestal Festival booster box and this was my “hit”. Terrible pull but hilariously aligned with the times, so it exists in the collection as a zeitgeist piece. The disdain I have for Gholdengo reflects my feelings towards all the other
heads and 2025Chad$t0nkBallers.
Lastly, a staple of every hotel room bedside table drawer in Minato City, Tokyo: a well-loved copy of the Silver Bible.
I’d like a binder collection of Nintendo era ex holos in both English and Japanese. As you can see, the binder is going very well with these graded copies of Typhlosion and Lapras ex:
And thank you to my kind-natured Netherlands-based SECRET SANTA (who has a very bubbly personality) for starting me on the JP path:
I’d also like a complete graded collection of no-symbol Jungle holos. Here’s a random Pinsir that I don’t remember buying to kick it off:
(IOU pictures). I have 2 items in my sealed collection currently: a (well, 2) Japanese VHS Intro Packs, and a Japanese Neo Intro Pack. I don’t really know why they’re in my collection to be honest. I originally bought them to stonk on by piecing-out and grading the cards which I’ve done previously, but I just can’t be bothered. I quite like them sealed so will probably just keep them as permanent features
