Japanese boosterboxes difference

Hi guys,

Is there a way to see the differnce on the japanese boosterbox if its a 1st ed box or unl?
Just so i dont get screwed on ebay XD

thx in advance

Japanese cards were not printed in 1st Edition until the VS set around 2001. Earlier sets did not have a 1st Edition run (Base, Jungle, Fossil, Neo). VS also never had an unlimited run. All cards produced in that set were 1st Edition. After VS, some sets were printed in 1st Edition but this was marked clearly on the outside of the box.

Anyone referring to Japanese 1st edition base cards would be referencing the lack of a circle, diamonds or star rarity mark in the lower right corner. These are the first run of these cards but are not actually 1st edition stamped on the card itself therefore there will not be any way to tell from the outside of the box.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure most 1st edition japanese booster boxes have the first edition stamp on the front side of the booster box and not the top so you would need a picture showing this angle.

@fireftw87 from what i remember yes there will be a stamp on the front side of the booster box!

@nicor123 perhaps you can check with the seller as well? Sometimes they just use stock images and you can’t tell for sure if its 1st/unlimited.

The first edition stamp for a japanese booster box should always be on the FRONT!

NOT the top.
If the seller does not provide images of the front of the box then ask, shouldn’t be too hard.
Good luck!
