Japanese Bandai Handkerchief from 1995/6?

Firstly, sorry if this threat has been put into the wrong category - I’m new here and still getting used to things.

I recently purchased a massive box of items from Japan for the sole purpose of wanting the sealed postcards that were in them (I’ll post about those later).

These handkerchiefs intrigued me though so I wanted to ask if anyone could shed any more light on them.

If any of you have ever worked in the hospitality industry and had to change tablecloths you’ll know what I mean when I say these are as crisp as tablecloths are when the hotel gets them back from the company that washes and presses them - these feel like they were made yesterday.

The copyright markings are what are getting me. They have the same markings as I have seen people posting things about other products from early on in the Pokemon franchise, and even in the same font!

I’ve uploaded some photos here and would be grateful if anyone can provide any info on these whatsoever and/or can just translate the text on the sticker towards the bottom right.

Sorry that this one is sideways, never rotated it before uploading it!

Oh dear, that’s maybe because of a setting I have on my Dropbox account. I’ll try and fix that :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Thanks for letting me know though @andrea

No problem, just use imgur.com it’s probably quicker

Is that now working @andrea ?

Yes! Very cool item, as someone that collects Pokemon in japanese I’m jealous :sob:

Thanks @andrea I do love them as well! Determined to find out a bit more on them, and if I do I’ll share on here

@chopin, It would interesting to try to contact the Bandai customer service too see if they can provide some knowledge or is it possible to contact the seller?. I’ve tried translating the writings and they basically say: ‘‘Pocket Monsters seal, please use it to clean stuff’’ and below there’s the customer service address and on the sticker next to the ‘‘SHOPA’’ sticker it just says something about the material and warns you in case you were to wash it (my english might be a little messed up)

@andrea, is right, there’s nothing really about what this is or where it came from apart from saying Bandai… I went ahead and wrote down the Japanese for you anyway to hopefully make googling/contact easier

Pokemon sticker/decal (old way of spelling it when it was still Pocket Monsters which is why it’s ポケットモンスター and not ポケモン)
You can stick it on a lot of places!

@andrea,@nish, thank you both for your time. I was hoping the text would reveal a little more than it has. More to go on that I had this morning though so again thanks!

I found a link to someone who has(had) one as well, but the URL is forbidden for me. Maybe it’ll work for you? The URL text shows

Actually, googling ポケットモンスター ハンカチ 赤 ステッカー付き gives you quite a few results.
Here’s a twitter link

and same forbidden aucfree link but it shows a still sealed one in this pic

Never saw those before, even when I was running my toy shop in Tokyo in the 1990s. Very cool items!

Hey @chopin,
thanks for sharing this interesting collectible item! I really do like the design and would love to have one of them.
Regarding the stiff and scratchy feeling of the towel, that is exactly what the sticker above says:
“As this product was made with a special printing technology, the surface feels stiff. However, when you wash it before using, it will become soften.”
Best wishes from Germany

They are beautiful aren’t they?! Think I might get them framed and displayed at some point

Wow, that’s surprising that you’ve never seen them despite running a store - that suggests to me that they were not made by the millions or otherwise were only made for a limited time, or that just there were SO SO many poke products on the market back then in the height of the hype for the franchise that you could be forgiven for missing them! Ha, either way I love them

@fushigibana, Hi Martin, thanks for messaging, and thanks for reading the literal translation from the sticker on the piece, that’s much appreciated.
