Nobody is saying there’s no market. Smart sellers create the market and many follow. I already proved that all embossed stamped promos can be duped beautifully.
As far as being unique well, I’ve been an oddity and error collector my whole life. I enjoy them. I go as far back as the Hassan error cards from 1910. Believe me, there’s nothing new about this. All categories have their oddities. My problem is when there’s people being convinced there’s an unrealistic value to that stuff and basically getting ripped off.
As in “unique” I just mean that there are a lot of unverified cards that seem to be printed in pokemon. I don’t follow Magic or Yugioh so I don’t know if there are cards that are similar to these in those tcg’s. Since these cards are niche, value is determined by what someone is willing to pay. I agree though that It can be annoying when people try to convince others about unrealistic pricing on these cards. The first card that comes to mind is that stamped collectors Charizard. People were defending the $500+ value of it and saying its official, many month later its less than $100.
My girlfriend is originally from Turnhout, Belgium where Cartamundi is located.
Until now I had no idea they were being printed over there.
Her father can most likely bring me in touch with someone who used to work there, although I highly doubt there would be information like that shared to all employees. (I have no idea about the job of the so-called connection.)
Worth a shot and I will definately update as soon as I have heard back of him.
Currently, there is a national playing cards museum.
That’s what I’m saying! Coming from the MtG misprint community where some ex-employees are widely known and easy to get in touch with, it seems impossible to get in touch with anybody from the Pokemon side of WotC. Unless part of the WotC-Nintendo settlement was that WotC isn’t allowed to disclose any information about the game being printed during the time they had the license, which would make sense.
I didn’t want to be the one to say this… it’s a sad reality. As far as I’m aware this has been the case since the early 2000s after they started hot-stamping certain baseball/basketball cards. There were some decent baseball fakes being passed around back then. No surprise seeing them appear in Pokemon, and that’s why I sold all my pre’ clefables.
I’ve had opportunities to talk with different employees about Pokemon on numerous occasions and most are simply not interested (for a number of reasons). To be honest, I’ve been secretly trying to bring some people back to the community (and efour) for awhile now.
Keep in mind that Pokemon never belonged to WOTC, whereas always MTG did. Pokemon had a run of around 4 years with WOTC and MTG around 28 and is ongoing. Most people on that web list are willing participants and involved in the MTG community. The same is (currently) not true for those who were involved with Pokemon.
