Increase in PSA Grading, Decrease in value of graded cards

Im not sure if this has already been pointed out, but I’ve noticed a heavy increase of people posting up their PSA buys and asking what other people value them at or what they would have paid… I find that to be super annoying and totally missing the point of collecting…

sigh.

Yeah, understood. I do think it’s viable/ok to post when the card has a really low population, and there is no established track record of sales. Then the poster can get a general idea of the card’s worth. I suppose I’m guilty of that with the PSA 10 UR Mega Ray if anyone remembers that, but I really had no idea what to list it at.

Just speaking from personal experience, there are some really sweet PSA cards that I have that I never want to ask a value for because they’re too special to me. I have zero intention of selling them to anyone ever and I know I value them far above what anyone would ever pay, so there’s no use asking. I think that’s sorta the collection utopia we wish we could have, but we do have to sell cards sometimes, and getting a value from other knowledgeable collectors can really help.

People are taking pictures of the eBay listing they won and asking that question :unamused: like they plan to just resell it as soon as they can get it. Idk I might just be looking at it the wrong way lol

@pottsinator So they didn’t even grade it themselves?! Ugh that is definitely annoying.

Nope just eBay purchases.

I totally agree @pottsinator.

I would only ever ask if I wanted to know for insurance purposes for my collection or if I have doubles, want to get a proper valuation to;

A) not appear on the eBay garbage thread; and
B) not undercut everyone else so as to harm people who use this as a business.

Getting valuations is important, but people buying to flip instantly is certainly not in the spirit of collecting in my eyes. =(

Some people may just be wondering if they got a good buy

Resellers spread like the plague man. I am only familiar with Pokémon and sneakers (and to a lesser extent, Yugioh) but each hobby has seen increases in the number of people only interested in buying stuff for resale.

Amiibos are relatively new, but I am sure alot of the prices were/are being driven by people buying out as much as they can only to flip it on eBay the same day they buy them…

Unfortunately, I think as long as there are enough collectors for a particular hobby, there will be people who will try to make a profit out of them. Though, it can be argued that resellers can be a necessary part of the hobby too…

I have 500 Pokemon items listed but over a million in my collection so I can see this from both sides.

I say a big thank you to all the sellers who have helped me accomplish my goals. I don’t care how they did it but sure hope they made some good money. I’ve said before, I’d rather give Scott 100.00 for the same card a stranger is selling for 90.00. Bottom feeders only hurt the hobby when they try to save a few bucks.

Secondly, a big thank you to the buyers who have helped me support my hobbies:) I hope I helped you secure rarer items and treated you well.

Do you want a blue Yoshi? If you do PM me and I’ll try and hook you up. AUD is low so that’ll be good for you.

My local games store had tons of each colour.

That’s why we come to places like this, where the % of true collectors is much higher than most places. :sunglasses:

Definitely! Even on Reddit, I’ve noticed that lately alot of people post their pickups in the COLLECTION sub and are instantly talking about the sweet deal they scored and the profit they will make…
