These illustration contest style cards are starting to become some of my favorites!

I’m waiting for the 2009 ones to hit PWCC. Might be a tad more expensive though

Cool to see them pop up. But man, seeing what they’re at already, I’m happy I bought mine raw.

Any recent public solds of raw copies? How do you even begin to value these?

Saw a raw copy of the Illusion’s Zorua but don’t like taking risks. Sold on March 5th of this year for $245.

If you know anything about the history of these cards, you will know that is 100% a fake listing.

I don’t know much of anything here and try to avoid fomo.

@pingy I sold one that should be publicly searchable for $17,500. Offers have been double since then. The listing shared is a fake card. Here is a real copy for comparisson:

I assumed this one was fake for sure

Thanks for the replies, Is there fakes circulating around right now and how to tell if one is legitimate? I maybe potentially line up a huge in person deal and want to make sure I don’t get scammed

I think it’s a red flag that it was listed for $245 which is right below the $250 threshold for ebay authenticity guarantee.

As for the card itself, you can definitely see how washed out the colors look on both the front and back compared to a real copy.

If you’re prepared to drop 4-5 figures on these cards, I would advise buying through a legitimate auction site like Fanatics or one of the big consignment services on ebay. Buying graded is safer, although there are fake PSA slabs out there too.

If you can, ask the seller you were thinking of doing an in-person deal with for photos and share them on e4. People here should be able to give you an accurate second opinion.

General advice, buy only graded. If you are buying raw and aren’t able to tell if its real, or the source isn’t a known expert, thats a 5 figure risk. I personally don’t do in person deals, its honestly more of a hassle.

Edit: @ddk beat me to it! My exact thoughts!

Thanks to both of yall I understand, Photos the guy sent me are obvious fakes lol. The hunt continues..

Ah, bummer. Sucks to hear fakes are making the rounds for these now, but they’re legitimately rare (200 copies ever printed, or “100 officially”) and have amazing artwork and history behind them. Best of luck!

Yes, sadly many high end promos are currently being faked at the moment and are easily accessible. I posted a batch of images in the below thread:

Definitely recommend ddk’s and smpratte’s advice with cards like these!

The day that cards can be replicated without detection by grading companies is the day collecting cards is over. Whats real, whats not? Nobody would know
