Hi all, had a little bit of free time on my hands so I recorded a quick vid on how I sleeve and de-sleeve cards with Perfect Fit Sleeves. This was a single take so if people want a better take on it, I can schedule some time later this week to re-upload a better version. Just let me know.
Thanks for sharing. I use a different method but enjoyed seeing yours. I usually slip my finger under the sleeve and apply slight pressure to pull out. Sometimes I will slip finger underneath to create space and snip the sleeve with a scissor.
It’d be cool if we used to thread to share multiple good ways to sleeve perfect fits with videos so that people can have more than one example because maybe for some reason a method doesn’t work for someone. All in all great video my man!
I’ve done that in the past (with exception to the scissors) with no issues, but I figured I’d show a more universal method in case people don’t have the fingers to slip inside the sleeve.
@bbqcat, I don’t know. Depends on if they like Gyarados or not. Or if they wanted to invite me into an unmarked White Van WITH the promise of Gyarados cards.
Very true. Like @qwachansey mentioned, there are alternative ways. I’m also happy to tackle questions if anyone has particular difficulties to see if they can be overcome by varying methods.
It also comes down to preference. For example, people really seem to like Card Savers, but I can’t stand them, so I prefer Toploaders even though I know they’re the lesser of the two options.
Great info! I used to try and get cards out of perfect fits by starting at the tiiiiiny gap at the bottom of the sleeves and slowly working the card out - your method looks a bit easier, although a little forceful to me. Similarly, I always get scared when I see someone put a card into a card saver by just pushing down on the top of the card The video of the guy pulling the 1st edition base charizard and then forcing it into the card saver damn near killed me
Related question - how do I get cards out of ultra pro sleeves? Is the process similar to the perfect fits? Since the sleeves are a little more rigid, I usually just hold it open and pull out the card with a padded tweezer like apparatus, but there has to be a better way
Thanks! I know it does seem a bit forceful but cards can take a bit more handling than we give them credit for. Plus, as forceful as it is, I’m actually applying almost no pressure at all. It’s more like a tap-push. Card Savers give me anxiety so I get that. I always feel like I’m going to mangle my card so I’ve called them off completely. XD
As for ultra pro sleeves, I just use the method you talked about how you used to open Perfect Fit sleeves, slide a finger in and gently coax it out. Padded tweezers sound like next level stuff, though!
Thanks @bartallen2. And thanks @mareee for providing an alternative. I tried it out and it definitely works. I just don’t feel as in control but people should be free to whatever they feel is best.
@originalera and @genosha - It’s not a troll. In the past, whenever I see anyone mention perfect fit sleeves, I hear people have genuine concerns about them or have had difficulty in the past as how to handle them. I’ve talked to a few members who stated they would like a demonstration on how I sleeve for Perfect Fits, thus, I had some free time and figured I’d make a video.
Next you’ll be condemning threads on how minimise damage on cards potentially worth thousands such as: the handling of cards, methods to appropriately open booster/blisters packs, so on and so forth ~ If this thread is potentially increasing the likelihood of preventing a bunch of PSA 10s turning into 9s, then why the apathy? Isn’t that a good thing for the hobby, or have I missed something?
I thought penny sleeves and card savers were to prevent that. But collectors nowadays really need a video for this, to prevent them from damaging their cards? Even my nephews understood that cards are paper and bending them causes damage…
It’s not that bending cards cause paper - that’s a rather prosaic route to go IMO; it’s the method method of removing/putting in a card into a sleeve that could bridge the difference between a PSA 10 and PSA 9 - bending is just one of the criterion which PSA employs to judge a card. What about the corners and edges and surface? Would you then belittle someone - using that rationale - using gloves to handle cards then? Or one using scissors to open a booster pack? There’s a difference between understanding and actually carrying something out, especially something that’s privy to human error.
You’re suggesting that because your nephews know something: everyone else does - or at least should, which isn’t the case.
@azulryu, I find that for pack fresh perfect-fit sleeves (KMC brand), when I slot the card in, the lip of the plastic on the furthest edge catches the edge of the card 30% of the time.
In your first example, the area that catches would be the top right corner of the card. For that reason I prefer to use penny sleeve into top loaders/ card saver 1 now.
If you have any left over energies from ETBs, try putting perfect sleeves on all of them and store them away then take them off when needed. It stretches them out a little and almost eliminates the risk of the sleeves causing any damage to the card. I should mention that it is important to use brand new/clean energies when doing this to eliminate any chance of dirtying up the sleeves.
