I’m trying to get a rough estimate of when CGC cards were graded based on the cert. I’m hoping people on here who have submitted cards to CGC in the past are able to shed some light on this. I’m commonly seeing 4XX and 6XX certs, as well as newer 1XX certs. Does anyone have a timeframe for these or any other CGC certs? I know that they started grading Pokémon cards in the 3XX in 2020, but I don’t know how long it took to get to 4XX.

I haven’t actually looked into this as close as PSA, but the label itself might give you some hints. If it’s the more solid blue one with O/C grade numbers on the label, then you probably have the early Covid era slab which might help you figure out more of the cert # ranges compared to what came after. CGC has had 3 label updates so far.

I don’t have exact dates either but solid blue 3xx certs are oldest, then around late 39 they transfered to newer blue I believe, then 4 series went up to the new black label, then 14xxxx is oldest new label, 6xxx is new black label starting mid last year

386xxxxxxx seems to be the transition from old blue to newer blue (based on the labels I have).
The new certs being 14xxxx and 6xxx was very puzzling to me lol, thanks for the info!

It was for me too. When they had the 14x certs you used to be able to lookup grades as they were being worked on in the system which I think may have been the reason why they changed the format.
It was nice for the Uber inpatient people like me, but it also left a sting if you peeked during grading saw a 10 and then in qa review someone veto’d it down to a 9

They got to 4xx cert in early 2022. Some data for you from my subs:

March 2022 sub – 4021xx

April 2022 sub – 4048xx

June 2022 sub – 4083xx
Based on the rate of change, it seems reasonable to assume they hit 4xx some time in January or February 2022.
All of my 2021 subs are 3xx.
My most recent sub was June 2023 and it was 4270xx. So anything past 4xx is very recent (almost certainly graded within the past 1.5 years).
Hopefully this gives you a sense of timeline.

if you have some of the 36x or 37x 9.5 those are pretty crossable to psa 10 at a somewhat noticeable rate 
or at least they were havent tried it in years
Does anyone know when they switched from it being recessed to PSA style inner where it is held at the 4 sides?

This is the earliest version of there CGC slab that I know of. Main give away is the sides holding the card in place. I have cracked many of these in the past and let me tell you, these things crack like BUTTER. Very satisfying to crack if you ever get the itch

I want to crack this one but I cracked another Vaporeon V CGC 9.5 (held in the slab PSA style with the 4 sides) and damaged it so I’m hesitant

Or just watch one of my videos on cracking one of these things and do it yourself. It is pretty straightforward when you have the right tools.
Appreciate the offer but that one’s a keeper for me. It was that card in particular and seeing the alts in Eevee Heroes that brought me back into collecting (last I had collected before that was the Ruby and Sapphire block)

Good to know. I couldn’t make heads or tails of the 6xx and 14xx certs when they first started popping up.
