Poll 1: In general I won’t ask for off-ebay purchase, unless a very reliable seller proposed it first. Happened once on cardmarket though: seller said I could have a deal on IG and I accepted.

Poll 2: Not Pokemon related, but chatting with buyers (rarely) I offered the option to purchase the item on other platforms, if the item was already listed there.

How often I ask on eBay is never. But how often I make a deal off of eBay that started by me seeing the card on eBay is fairly high. Lots of sellers have similar or the same usernames on Instagram or their actual store, so I reach out all the time and talk to people off of eBay.

Same. I never ask because my eBay account is really old and I wouldn’t do anything to risk it. The amount of sellers that send pics of their IG though is really high lol

If it’s a person who shares their Instagram or is well known in the community, yes, I will try to save a little bit. If it’s a “famous” person on Instagram but I’m sure they will not do it, I will not try. For example, I would never try with ZandG, I know he would’nt even without me trying.

Almost never, unless they reach out to me and show me their Instagram, and it’s a reputable collector. I would never tell them, “Can we do this on Instagram?”

Both scenarios are only for Buy It Now. I would never do it in auctions, whether I won or someone else won from me.

For me, never. I’m not on IG and I think I prefer it that way. I’ll miss out on some deals here or there, but that makes the auction wins and BINs that much sweeter.

In recent years I haven’t sold too many items so I’ll skip the second poll.

The pick I made for buyer poll reflects my overall experience in Pokemon/Ebay since 2013. Back in the day it was common thing to contact other people directly after first deal, can’t do that now with regular users unless they include business card in your purchase.

While this isn’t the subject of topic I also haven’t done gifted payments in last ~5 years, some of you might remember when Paypal gave lots of temp bans for that reason, learned my lesson before it even happened.

Seconding that I’ve been asked to as a buyer on cardmarket before as well.

Haven’t sold anything on eBay yet in general, so that’s a never.

And I also never ask seller’s to go off eBay.
Although there have been some sellers who’ve asked me as a buyer to go off eBay, and in some cases I didn’t mind. :person_shrugging: Opposite of that, I’ve contacted some people through reddit/IG/Discord/etc., and they preferred listing the cards on their eBay for me to buy (and leave positive feedback on). :person_shrugging:

Same here. Still learning the nuances of ebay buying, and a seller asked me to buy off ebay. Was curious what y’all thought

If the operative clause is “I ask” the answer is never. If it’s offered to me, and I trust the buyer/know them, I might. Only <5% of the time, if that.

If I’m selling an item on eBay for $3,000 buyer is paying $3,240 and I’m making $2,550

Why not try to bridge that gap? I’m not a high volume seller and this is solely a hobby but the gaps between what buyer pays and what seller makes is too big for me to bow down too. Already sell too much on eBay, the higher end items I prefer not to

coz the buyer will likely try to take off 15% for the ebay fees (which no one is paying 15% fees for a 3k card) and/or want to pay with g&s which is prone to return fraud unlike ebay auth which is impossible to do

I just had a few ig messages that offered under all my last sales, some almost half. Mostly PSA 10 1st Ed Base cards. A good example was a $508 offer on a Devo Spray that I sold for $900. This is pretty par for the course. I’ve wasted probably months - a year of my life responding to lowball or dead end dms. Unless its a larger sale with a bank wire, or something that makes more sense for your situation, 99% of the time you are better off just going through ebay, even if you don’t make as much.

This. All these Instagram buyers want all the benefit and savings for themselves, and are not thinking to split or share any of it with the seller. If I’m going to net the same amount on Instagram, as I am on eBay, then I am completely disincentivized to deal off of eBay.

is it from someone who “is interested in all of your psa slabs” will just relist at market when u sell at their lowball price

i will normally say i can sell it at xxx and if they were gonna lowball they wont even bother responding after that

Exactly! That’s such a rampant thing right now!

I used to more before ebay vault as I didn’t want to pay a hefty tax fee. Now I can send to vault and withdraw to my house for a very low fee of like $25. This was mainly for big ticket items >$1000
