How many of us serious Pokémon collectors exist?

I would say at least 100,000 in the states alone.

For the longest time, I never classed myself personally as a ‘serious’ collector compared to so many people here on the forums. I just stick to my corner and collect my Mews, so in that respect, you could say I’m a ‘serious’ Mew collector.

But truthfully, that’s about it.

I don’t know if others share similar views, but for me, I consider myself more of a Pokemon connoisseur than a serious collector :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been know to raffle a pikachu or two on insta…so I guess you could say I’m pretty serial.

Nothing wrong w/ that at all. I know that I like the typical Pokemon, Pikachu cuz he represents everything for me growing up. If I had to choose another Pokemon to collect, it would be Mew/Mewtwo. Mewtwo’s backstory is just bad@** but also he is just an awesome looking Pokemon. Oh and he also gets the damn spotlight, come on!!

Still wondering if I would consider myself a “serious” collector. Is something that is a hobby to me considered serious? I’m not spending hundreds on 1st edition shadowless cards every week/month, although I plan to start making purchases in the near future.

I only send cards to PSA that I am fond of, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get every card I like graded.

Still, nice to know there are a lot of collectors/hobbyists out there!

Dunno if im serious or not, i just buy psa10 ex era cards for the artwork and cardstyle.

To me a serious collector is one that buys autonomously. They collect what they love and aren’t influenced by trends or the opinion of others.

I think serious is based on how much skin you have in the game. It’s hard to say you aren’t serious if your collection is big enough to buy a car or be part of your retirement plan. I became serious when I bought my PSA 7 first ed. Zard. I checked my top 10 cards recently and they topped 5,000 dollars in value when done. Some people have cards worths double that, but to have 10 that make that is kinda big for me.

You mean out there in the world or?

Any worlds where they collect Pokémon. Earth, Mars, Sheboygan, etc.

To put in perspective the new zealand version of ebay, trademe constantly has psa graded cards, charizards included. We are a very small country but have a relatively vibrant pokemon community. To me i think that the scope of the pokemon franchise is so huge its impossible to even try to put a number on. If its now a bigger franchise than star wars, thhe worlds pikachus oyster. Lol.
