How do you keep track of the value of your collection?

Thanks for the recommendations. The problem I see is that they lack a bit behind with sealed. The newest Japanese set they have is Pokémon GO from 2022.
Am I doing something wrong, or did they stop supporting sealed?

I personally don’t use the sealed function so I’m not too sure. Looks like you’re right though, they’re not up to date. But they do seem to maintain the site pretty well so it should be up soon hopefully.

I don’t

I try to audit my collection once per year. I’ll use TCGPlayer market for raw cards and 130point and TCGFish for slabs.

idk it kinda just feels like the responsible thing to do. You never know what kind of life events can happen and you may need to sell even when you don’t plan on it. I know it’s not for everyone, knowing how much your collection is worth. I also let my loved ones know the value of my collection in case something happens to me :skull:

I’ve quit keeping track of value, and really taking out the monetary aspect as a whole. For me, it really made collecting less fun.

I use this to keep track of my collection value, but its slabs only

This is what the UI looks like if you were curious (Cards don’t have to be vaulted if you were wondering for it to track)

you mean buying an individual item for 5 figures… Right?

Didn’t setup excel sheets to keep track value of my collection, I saw some people did. Only occasionally browsing online sellers selling the same cards I own is good enough for me:

“Oh this card is this price now… Nice!”

I use Collectr so I can quickly check what cards I have (so I don’t buy doubles accidentally). It provides an overall collection value but, at least for my cards, is wildly in accurate due to the poor condition of many of them!

One can simply think about that in the moment of the event.
If I don’t plan on selling my collection but my car explode and I need extra money to buy a new one I can think about selling in that moment.
We don’t have to overthink the unexpected, it’s called like that because we can’t really prevent it from happening.
And even if we try to do so, other plans can come to mind.
Your argument is right, but the whole matter is very subjective

Oh for sure, I’m not trying to justify why everyone should do it, I’m just justifying why I choose to track the value of my collection.

Is there a post/poll about people’s total value of their collection? I would be interested to know what the average value of an e4 member’s collection is.

It seems that tracking the value of your collection is a faux pas and sharing the value would be even more taboo lol

To my knowledge, there is not a post/poll about the total value of e4 members’ collections. People will have varying comfortability with sharing that number, if they know it at all.

There’s also a lot of variance around those calculations. For example, how does an error collector value their collection? The errors are worth what people are willing to pay. Same goes for trophies, specific promos, and other niche items.

If I had to guess with absolutely no evidence at all, I would say that the “average” e4 collection is worth around $20,000. :person_shrugging:

I know it’s a sensitive topic lol. Just curious

Every 6 months I put all my cards up for auction to see what they sell for and then cancel all their orders

I have a rough idea in my head. That rough idea is probably completely wrong though.
