How do you feel about proxy/custom cards?

Now you’re only replying for the sake of arguement. The barcode doesn’t scan and the serial number is my lucky three numbers (355), 000 in the middle because Missingno and 1992 for my birth year…

Passive aggression aside,

Printing proxy/custom cards for play :white_check_mark:

Buying proxy/custom cards for unobtainable official items (e.g. Pocket) = directly financing someone’s participation in copyright infringement :x:

Buying “graded” proxy cards for any reason at all = directly financing a wider scam :x:

Respectable.

But you can’t play an illustrator although it is just for me.

They’re sold as replicas and cannot be passed off as real because the back is different

And I made the label with zero logos of any company present at all.

I would understand if this were a sales post but it’s not. Plus you can’t pick and chose how and when proxy/custom cards are acceptable

to me there is a difference between proxies imitating an already existing card, and proxies introducing a new artwork from an artist that has never been seen before. The former I wholeheartedly despise, the latter I appreciate.

From the same artist! (It’s hand painted)

I’m not a fan of proxy cards. Sometimes you just have to make peace with it 's not in the cards! Or you can buy something like this.

That’s a wild one for me. I’ve made peace with never owning these high end trophy cards, I made peace by being satisfied with a proxy

“Buy the card, not the grade”

I think this phrase had not been as literal as in this case …

Here’s an example of mine, those graded cards were all gifts so they stay in their slabs. I have proxies to make my eyes happier when flipping through though

(The code is already used)

dont like proxy cards because many ppl get scammed by these.

Pikachu grey felt hat for example, it’s one of the easier cards to fake and its worth a decent amount of money as a single. In fact, psa reports it was one of the most commonly faked cards that was sent in last year for grading

And i genuinely believe most of those people wernt trying to get one over on PSA I bet the majority were scammed as anyone in the know would easily see the rear of the card isnt even close to original and it would never pass

now, you might say something like:
Well, I have no intention to defraud anyone I just want a replica.
But the bigger issue is that if you keep funding these proxy companies, they will get bigger and bigger. And eventually have a large enough operation to commit big money into exact replicas

Getting scammed really sucks but getting an illustrator for 5 bucks is awesome. That’s where I stand on this. I’m excited to setup my new display case. Visually it should be phenomenal.

If anyone wants to donate any trophy cards so I can destroy these proxies lmk!

Someday it is highly likely someone with no Pokémon knowledge will be selling your assets when you die. They might do a google search of the fake slabbed Illustrator and think they hit the jackpot. They might sell it for cheap to someone who thinks they are getting a steal.

I am against fake slabs. I am against profiting off IP owned by TPC. People printing Pocket cards are stealing from TPC

Exactly, even if its not the intention of the original buyer to scam people someone will get hurt eventually
