How do you display your collection, but also keep it safe?

I’m not so much worried about people taking the cards in a display setting, but more about sun damage and the ink fading. Is there a way to correctly display them or is there a special cover/glass case that I can buy so that I can see my cards, but also not worry about long term damage? Thank you!

Definitely not the answer you’re looking for, but: I display my collection on Instagram.
When my collection was < $2k in value I had them all displayed on the top shelf of a large bookcase I used to own, but now that my collection is approaching 6 figures the valuable ones are now stored in a safe deposit box.

Having my collection on Instagram certainly doesn’t compare to seeing the cards in person, but it means that anyone who is interested (including myself) can see them at a whim regardless of where they’re located. It also means that people who come into my house don’t have to know about my collection - after all, I think if you knew the value of some Pokémon cards and knew exactly where someone had them on display they’d be a pretty easy thing to steal sadly.

Safe, on display. Choose one.

Just grade them BGS or CGC. Nobody will steal those

I’m JUST kidding. With the other thread. This response seemed appropriate.

I would just get a gun safe, and store them inside.
I’m considering this option myself, for both my guns and Pokémon

I did misunderstand your question. From a display standpoint, I can’t help. I wouldn’t think sun damage would be likely if it’s out of an area that sees a lot of direct sunlight. Maybe a really good plexiglass frame on the wall or desk out of direct sun

@sherbixtus Another option to consider is a hybrid approach. Create a small display area, and as others said, make sure it’s out of direct sunlight. An interior room or hallway could be a good option. You could also cover the display with UV resistant glass or acrylic. Then keep the bulk of your collection in a safe and rotate a few cards in and out of the display area every week or so.

Seems like a more difficult version of keeping your collection in a closet and taking it out when you want to view it

I appreciate all the answers! Definitely giving me a bunch to think about.

I’d like to echo what Reina said. The sun light exposure will make for a risk of damaging your cards. You can get UV coatings or film for a glass cabinet, but at that point it’s kind of a moot point to be displaying.

If you have a nice, sun free area and want to display your slabs , Ikea’s detolf is pretty great. Risers and LEDs can light up the display and not risk sun damage. Downside is the Detolf is solid glass, so there’s a big risk of breaking.

One other way if you’re a binder collector is try to get binders with nice and interesting spines. Then the shelves you’re keeping them on look cooler, and you know you’re keeping them out of the sun.

I keep it in my cheap ass Ikea display case. My boom stick is leaning against the wall next to it.

Safe and secure!

Easy question, you don’t, hope it helped.

Thanks for the info, I’m going to look into a Detolf unit.

All my cards are in a folder except for my PSA 8 squirtle which I got a PSA stand off ebay.

We’ve discussed this over and over. You CANT display cards safely. Good luck having all albino cards trying to display them.
