How do you complete private transactions ?

I have only dealt with items on ebay. I’ve had an item up on ebay the last month and I received many messages about talking on IG and/or making deal privately. I ignored them and responded that I only deal on ebay.

But I’m curious, for those that make private transactions, I would say there needs to be a certain level of trust between the two partys. Do you send the item out first and receive payment afterwards or the other way around? Of course when its cheaper cards there isn’t as much to lose as opposed to an item worth 5 digits. Im curious to learn each step involved in a private transaction.

Well first and foremost it’s important to remember if anyone messages you on ebay about making a deal off of ebay and you comply with them over ebay messages you are going to get banned. So just remember if you want to do an off ebay deal, you should find a way to contact that person other than ebay messages. For private sales they are generally done over Paypal goods & services as they have buyer & seller protection. I have done many transactions buying and selling over E4 and the buyer always pays first and it has gone smoothly for me repeatedly. I suggest not using F&F on paypal unless with a very trusted seller. Just make sure the seller lists the exact items in the invoice description title so it’s clear what you are getting!

Sometimes I ask them if they are a member here on e4 or ask them to sign up so we can “discuss collecting cards on e4” or the customer will send me a picture with an email address hidden in it somewhere. I have never had my account flagged yet, fingers crossed.

I do F&F if it’s an E4 member that’s been a part of the community for awhile. I do Paypal G&S if its some random and I want to be protected to a similar extend to ebay sales. You can use paypal to send an invoice, or simply wait for them to send you a goods and services payment of which Paypal will take 3% as their escrow fee. The point of private transactions is usually to get out of 10% ebay fees or to aggregate multiple purchases while consolidating shipping to reach a singular pricepoint, so 3% and 0% are where the F&F/G&S come into play.

Done that multiple times, not only poke cards but for stuff like laptops, computer parts, camera gear etc. You will have to invoice them thru PPal, in Invoice description you need to put detailed item description you are selling so both you and buyer would be protected. Don’t worry about getting banned, it rarely happens.

Thanks for all your responses. Im extra curious towards higher end items because I recently got my hands on a nice booster box. I’d just like to know all my options for the future in case I want make a deal. If anykne has specially dealt with WOTC boxes, I’d love to know how you did it.
