Ahhh I had no idea! Always something new to learn!

One of the best parts of Pokemon!

Haha, I remember so well being at EB games circa mid 2004 and seeing the little detail:

Couldn’t be less interested in Pokemon channel but seeing this gave me heart palpitations. Immediately bought the game and completed it in a week. This and certain TM’s were the main reasons why I had to have a second Ruby cartridge, you only got one per save file.

Tell me about it! I’d not heard of that disc before so that was education for me too.

Gen 2 is my favourite but Gen 3 has a sort of mystical feel to it with linking different games and consoles together, different regions, and hidden islands.

And there are all the little quirks like having to get the legendary beasts from Colosseum if you don’t want the FRLG versions with their glitched IV stats.

Crystal version was what got me into Pokémon, and I’m down to replay it every couple of years.

I will agree that Emerald had the best battle frontier by a mile, and personally I really liked the way the legendaries were handled as well. I’ve never replayed that one, and actually have an unopened omega ruby I should try eventually.

It’s only as an adult that I discovered the item and Pokemon cloning glitch in Emerald. Absolute godsend for TMs, hold items, stat boosters, master balls, etc. Makes grinding for the Frontier and evolving to fill the Dex so much more manageable!

Afaik it’s the latest Pokemon game to have some sort of flaw to exploit like that.

Same! Would’ve saved so much time if I’d learned about it a few years earlier.

EV training Shelgon tonight, and only gone and found a full odds shiny Corphish (and it’s adamant at that)!!

After all these years, this is the first shiny I’ve found in Emerald, so that was a pretty great surprise for a quiet Saturday night.

In Emerald that is actually a big feat due to its broken RNG, congrats! For reference:

Wow, I had no idea about Emerald’s dodgy rng!

I’ve been lucky enough to get a few full odds shinies across the generations, but I’m definitely not dedicated enough to be a legit shiny hunter.

I have a few from Gen 3 on my Diamond cart: a shiny Linoone and a Tentacruel. I don’t use Tentacruel but I like it as a shiny for the completely different colour of the orbs on its head instead of the whole Pokemon just being a slightly different shade like some others. Can’t remember which GBA carts I originally caught them on though.

EDIT: also a shiny Bellossom which I remember catching as an Oddish and evolving up. What confused me is that Bellossom’s shiny has a blue body but I’m sure the original Sugimori art had it that colour and it eventually changed to green at some point?!?

I also caught a shiny Fearow when playing Fire Red via emulation last year.

In Gen 2 I remember catching a shiny Meowth and also a shiny Swinub which was quite different being blue and red.

Nice!

My first full odds shiny encounter still haunts me. It was a Girafarig at Lake of Rage in Silver…had a full PC box, so couldn’t even throw a ball and had to run! (VC Crystal redeemed the Gen 2 disappointment with a shiny Zubat years later).

After Silver, it wasn’t until LeafGreen that I found the next, where I stumbled on a Drowzee (caught) and a Pidgey (used Whirlwind before I could catch it). FireRed finally gave me a shiny Magnemite only last year, & Corphish pulled up in Emerald today. Still haven’t found one in my first Gen 3 game, Ruby.

My favourite random shiny find was in Platinum though. Put FireRed in the slot to unlock Growlithe encounters, and with the first rustle of grass on the Pokéradar, hit on a shiny Growlithe with a jolly nature!

I’ve only ever found a single full odds shiny, it happened in Emerald this year and it was a friggin WURMPLE. Imagine my disappointment after I put that beautifly into the box at level 10 and never looked back.

I’d kill for a shiny Beldum or Aggron in Gen 3 but boy I just don’t have the patience for thousands of soft resets.

I’m actually a pretty devout shiny hunter I started seriously hunting late 2022 and have upwards of almost 25 in gen 3. I really love doing it! Here are some of my favorites I’ve found so far.

Wow nice finds I shiny hunt on and off I hate the new games so bought a bunch of gameboys to hunt on the old ones, what’s your setup like for your hunts?

Thats very impressive, is there any method to increase your chances in gen 3?

I recently learned about the wifi mystery gift pokemon for gen 4 & 5, some of which are shiny, so I just started shiny hunting in B2 with the shiny charm

Thank you. There is no way to up odds in gen 3. its all 1/8192. Besides a couple exceptions like Bonus disc Jirachi and Sevii Islands Unown.

I’m looking to do some event mons in gen 4 too. I really want a Shaymin!
