Help tracking down names and cards - Non-Set Neo Gen

Hi all, just wondering if anyone had a list of all the neo gen cards that aren’t in the main english set.

I want to know what these things are actually called so I can track them down.

So far I’m aware of, but know very little about:
(1) Trainer Mag sleelix
(2) Glossy Slowking?
(3) Gold stamp promo (that’s all I know)
(4) Fire and Grass starter deck stamped cards (some with exclusive art)

Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

  1. trainer magazine Steelix should be just that I believe.
  2. maybe you’re referring to the hamada movie slowking? Not sure of any glossy Neo gen arts out there :man_shrugging:
  3. do you mean the battle road cards with the Neo Genesis stars gold embossed? They’re battle road 2000 cards.
  4. do you mean the Intro packs? Neo has meganium and feraligatr as the set leads, but t does also include cyndaquil and quilava as well.

I’m not 100% on everything you’re talking about here. But I believe you’re referring to Japanese promos that share a set symbol with Neo Genesis, which was common for promos in the Neo Era. They are not technically part of the set, but they share a set symbol to indicate they were promos released for/during Neo Genesis.

The best way to look through these, which will require some research on your part, is with the list of unnumbered promotional cards on Bulbapedia. You’ll need to refer to the photos to see if the card has the symbol you’re looking for: m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Unnumbered_Promotional_cards_(TCG)/1996-2005

From my own memory, these are the ones that qualify. But I am sure I am missing something so don’t take this as perfect.

  1. Togepi (CoroCoro)
  2. Marill (CoroCoro)
  3. Hama-Chan’s Slowking (your “glossy Slowking”)
  4. Neo Premium File 1 (all 9 cards)
  5. Murkrow & Darkness Energy (Trainer Magazine)
  6. Wooper (CoroCoro)
  7. Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile (World Hobby Fair 2000 — I believe these may be your “gold stamp” cards)
  8. Cleffa (CoroCoro)
  9. Steelix (Trainer Magazine)

Many of these also received English releases, but they were not affiliated with Neo Genesis the way the Japanese ones were.

In addition to this, Arcade Game, Card-Flip Game, and Moo Moo Milk are all trainer cards from Neo Genesis that received alternate art when released outside Japan.

To my knowledge there is nothing in the Chikorita and Totodile Intro Kit that features Neo Genesis-labeled cards. They have a unique set symbol.

Thank you so much, exactly what I’m after. Much appreciated :slightly_smiling_face:

@dunkslump , There are some for Neo Discovery too, if you’re heading in that direction. Although far fewer. I know there’s Smeargle, Hitmontop, and the cards from Neo Premium File 2. Edit: Woops, I actually just realized Scizor was from Neo Discovery, not Genesis.

Neo Revelation has Smoochum and Neo Premium File 3.

But it’s been a while. You’ll have to comb through the promos.

There are 25 Japanese promos that share the Neo Genesis set symbol. @stagecoach mentioned most of them, but there are 5 cards still missing - the 2000 Champion Road promo set. It includes reprints of Chikorita (53), Cyndaquil (57), Totodile (81), Fruit of Healing (Berry), and Fruit of Miracle (Miracle Berry). These are the “gold stamp” cards @dunkslump was referring to. The Neo Genesis set symbol on Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile is gold, while the Fruits lack the set symbol but have a gold stamp in the bottom right-hand corner. World Hobby Fair cards do not have gold set symbols or stamps. Both promo sets have text printed at the bottom of each card commemorating the event(?)

As for English, Togepi, Marill, and Cleffa were reprinted as Black Star Promo. The Neo Premium File 1 cards were included as part of the English main set, which is partially why Neo Genesis has 111 cards vs 96 cards in Japanese Neo 1. Japanese Neo 1 also excluded basic energy cards (6).

Also, there are 5 error cards that were corrected in (presumably) later print runs: Pichu, Typhlosion (17), Donphan, Quilava, and Darkness Energy.
