I was a blissful child, and didn’t pay enough attention at events. I twice had my deck stolen… thankfully, they sucked, and few of my valuable cards were in them.
Today, no one better lay a finger on my MtG decks, otherwise, they’ll be doing mulligans for a long long time.
This is not TCG related, but I remember going down to the local supermarked as a little kid and getting Mew transfered to my my German Pokemon Red game that I played on my purple Gameboy Color. It’s a long time ago, but Im pretty sure they had like a show where a guy was dressed up as Professor Oak etc. Great vibes! As a funny sidenote, Im Norwegian and did not know a single german word, but I played the heck out of that game… haha
I’m always a little nervous when I share the story because in the slim chance that guy ever sees it posted he will 100% know it’s about him. Although I imagine all these years later he’d have to react with good humor.
We actually became pretty friendly in the years following this incident as Pokémon declined and kids formed relationships that did not revolve around Pokémon. I never told him that I had plotted against him previously.
He was a good dude, ultimately. He gave me his copy of Master Quest for the GamCube. But man did I hate seeing him thrive. And yet, if all I had to do was throw up all over myself to get a Charizard in 1998, I would have.
I always try to be fair and keep anecdotes anonymous. I figure if I share something that involves someone here, under those conditions, as you also did, they can’t complain and if they do, they’re outing themselves. So… I don’t see a problem. heh
Not remembering an official event but recently I found a forgotten Binder in my bank vault that had a sealed ancient Mew Promo Card in it and I immediately got a flashback to when my mother took me to the first pokemon movie and watched the film together with me Those feelings are pure magic!
Wow! What a fun journey you’ve had! That’s really cool. Looking back now I feel like I should have played the tcg when I was a kid while also collecting but man, I’m glad you got to experience all that.
