Hi everyone,
While I originally set out just to find more info on a specific Starmie item I bought and posted about in my collection thread, the research quickly snowballed. I ended up compiling a lot of details about the 1997 Tomy Batt-Memo DX product line—and I figured it was worth sharing in its own post for fellow collectors.
Overview of the Batt-Memo Products
Note: This information is based on my own research, so it may contain errors. If you notice any mistakes, please let me know! The pictures shown are not mine.
“Batt-Memo” stands for “Battle Memo,” a collectible product produced by Tomy that paired a sticker sheet with a matching mini notebook. The idea was to play against other players using these sets. Batt-Memo was released in two editions and a DX set. First Edition consists itself of two parts: Part 1 and Part 2 (each consisting of 76 notebooks). DX Edition is called “Batt-Memo DX” and only consists of three Blister packs (according to @Metapod_museum here). Second Edition consists of 151 notebooks and has a different design with a black background on the notebooks.
From what I found, the product line included:
- Sticker & notebook sets (the core product, they always come together)
- Three Starter Packs, each featuring either Charizard, Venusaur, or Blastoise on the packaging (together they are the DX Edition of the series)
- Booster Packs
- Booster Boxes
- Cases containing 16 sets of stickers and notebooks
- A Batt-Memo Collection File

Collector Insight and links
@deltazero “I know that this is a game that involves little memo notebooks. You can even get little booster packs where you can get other notebooks
with a chance of them being foil.” (source)
@nidokingdom “I thought that all pokemon had a holographic version for a long time because I really wanted nidoking to have one, but unfortunately I think it’s not the case. Only a select few pokemon in each set have a holographic version; usually Pikachu, legendaries, starters, and in part 3 some of the Stage 2 evolutions etc…” (source)
@Metapod_museum “First Edition - Colored background - Divided in two parts called PART 1 (76) and PART 2 (76); DX; Seccond edition - Black background - Called PART 3 (152)” (source)

@dtibbs “There are a total of 76 to collect in PART 2 [of the First Edition -orannge]. 8 of those = HOLOS […] Each booster pack contains 2 tiny notebooks SEALED in a cello bag with a sticker sheet included […] Pull Rates = only 2 Holos per box. Period. Some Holos are more frequently pulled than others, as well.” (sources: Instagram post 1 and Instagram post 2)

Holographic Notebooks
- Holographic notebooks (as far as I believe) exist only for selected Pokémon (likely popular ones, Mew, starters, or legendaries).
- If a Pokémon got a holographic notebook in First Edition or Second Edition, there seems to be no regular version of this notebook in this Edition – but this is still unconfirmed.

Final Thoughts
The Batt-Memo DX line is fascinating. It’s been a challenge to piece together all this information, but with the help of great e4 members I hope it turned out helpful for other collectors. If you’ve got any knowledge or pictures to fill in the gaps or correct any mistakes I made, please share!
