The old school ex. There like 1 cent per card, but there lower in pop then most expensive cards, and there very difficult to achieve in psa 10. Buying a card outright is no wear near as special as earning your own… ANd you just wait peeps. Those pristine 10s shall be mine, the impossible shall become possible.

The effort of gambling and taking risks, pays off hansibly and is far more rearding then the potential loss, which is about 50/50 and can result in leathal wallet draining. :nerd_face: Take the big auction i got… Had the complete pcg/adv/dp/lp sets all gold stars and all exs… That was amazing because everything was pristine pack fresh goodness, and nobodies ever gotten all those sets gem all at one auction purchase and me and fourstar worked for ages to gather exs seperately to grade in 10, so it was absolute madness luck?.. Or maybe it is just effort, the gut feeling on that was that theyd all be mint from the moment i saw it. But how cool would of it been if everything was in played condition :nerd_face:
I mean some people are just super talented like myself at everything they do… Its not my fault i have the greatest skill set and ultra fortune telling abillitinz… Not to mention how modest i am.

Look all this stuff is just messing around, but in all seriousness… I hope this helps whoever is reading to go a step further and take some risks with things. DO exciting things even if its out of your reach and most importantly, have as much fun as possible. Because if your doing something and your not enjoying it, then something has to change there.

I understand why people don’t like the huge amount of ultra rares on the new sets especially if those people want to complete all sets. And I really think the japanese SM+ sets are way too much in general as they don’t even give us many new cards.

You don’t have to be so strict to your rules however… For example, I only get the ultra rares that I really like and sometimes I take my time to buy what I want and it doesn’t bother me at all. Sometimes I don’t get any ultra rares other than my pulls if there’s nothing that interests me. Sometimes you just need to be patient, even if you want to complete everything, patience is the key.

Plus what I like to do with Japanese sets is to complete the basic set (holos, uncommons, commons) but not bother that much about getting all the ultra rares. Just the ones that I really like, and I’m fine that way. With English meanwhile it would be harder to complete even just the basic set too so going full set is very difficult but in the end, if you find a set you really like and you want to complete it, when you finally do it’s a great feeling. So this is something that can be looked in many different ways… Everyone has their own habits of collecting so we could argue about this forever. I think right now there is something for everyone which is great.

Deriums just posted an opening of a SM:Guardians Rising box and the pull rates look like regular SM. 3 GX’s, 1 Full Art GX, 1 Hyper Rare and a Full Art trainer (which I believe is in same slot as the Pokemon FA).

Pull rates don’t seem to be that bad, question is more; how is the print quality. If SM:GR is being opened like SM and the print quality is good, the SR/HR cards will not stay on a high price point for a long time, but if you wanna pull it all yourself… that’s a harder task.

Just went through this whole thread, wow.

I personally agree with the majority of the people here, completing these sets is hard. But what I think the actual case here is the new Pokémon. We’re all at a point where early gen Pokémon is what we truly seek(for the most part) and so many new sets of so many new Pokémon kind of takes us further away from what we truly want/need. It’s like TPCi is charging at us with new sets simultaneously, it’s overwhelming. But at the same time you can’t complain about it just because you can’t keep up and expect someone else that can and is keeping up not throw in there ¢2.

I stopped this set collecting crap halfway through XY due to the couldn’t be bothered with all the chase card stuff. Sounds like its even worse now.

I’ll just continue trying to pick up a few cards here and there to finish older sets, unless this new gst on Australian imports bullshit destroys everything as much as I think it will

THe alternative to fix things if everything messes up.

Is get a trust steed american you know, and create a u.s ebay account ect. ANd then You will be fine.

What you can do is have him ship everything every 3 months or so as it builds up. Or just have it shipped whenever you need it I guess since it will probably be like 2-5 dollans per shipping to an american address from the ebay person your buying from. So it should be cool, if you need stuff quik for submissions still.

we just have our own mooind sets on collecting, and also how we think about business related stuff to, which may come off as sociopathic, and what we’d do… but dont need to destroy each other.

Well, I do agree with a lot of this thread. 24 secret rares is a ton of cards. nearly 1/7 of the set is secret rares! I only recently finished off all the regular sets, and I also agree that these new sets are overwhelming. But quite frankly, the past sets were somewhat easy to complete. You buy a booster box, get all the commons and uncommons and rares, and then buy the last 10 or so cards you’re missing, where as the most expensive card in the set hardly ever crossed over the $30 mark.

This is a tough subject to discuss, as already stated, people have different amounts of income and we all choose to spend it differently. But either way, I’d definitely say these new sets are pretty much the most expensive ones in history. (Don’t pull those eseries sets on me or what not, those were not as expensive when they came out as they are nowadays)

Referring to Frost’s original question, yes, I am that type of collector. I do like a challenge, and these sets will absolutely give you that. But I also like to be smart about my purchases. Instead of buying ultra ball secret rare when it first came out for $100+ or however much it was, just waiting until a few weeks ago saved me a good extra chunk of change. If it’s too much, then just shift away from them or casually collect what you like. Set collecting has somewhat been easy the past few years. Just the sound of saying “I completed a set” makes it seem like it’s supposed to be a real accomplishment, and the sun and moon sets will only push those boundaries higher.

In the end, it is what it is, and I’ll continue to collect the sets as they come out. While, I’m not made of money, pokemon is one of my hobbies that takes a lot of my disposable income, and the last set definitely hit harder. So it’s bad, but at the same time it increases my addiction to catch them all!

The only thing I don’t like is that it takes away from more of the commons and uncommons and holos that have great artwork. I’ve always been a fan of promoting the “coolness of cards” based on their artwork, rather than their market value. That’s why I like collecting the entire set, so I can look at every card! But who can resist a flashy shiny rainbow ultra rare that looks like a unicorn threw up on it, and then simply bulk out every other card? I can’t say I blame them.

I dont really care about SM, but I am a Eevee freak, so the only things I’m planning to get are the Eeveelutions. Thankfully G.R. only has one.

The Pokemon company had to do this and personally I like it, but I don’t collect full sets. I pick up a handful of PSA 9/10 cards here and there.

With the rate product is being opened singles would hold little value if there weren’t more chase cards. If the expected value drops too low people just wouldn’t buy the product, this is what’s happening in MtG right now and stores are losing money. This way the Pokemon company is able to create value for their end consumers and keep stores happy.

Genwunners get their nostalgia bait, competitive players get a choice of whether they want to use a $70 secret rare or a $0.50 uncommon in their decks and collectors get a challenge and the cards don’t tank in value after a month. This isn’t a bad thing.

Look at what’s happened with Evolutions. Everything is just too easy to get so only FA M Blastoise and M Zards are more than $15, yes this set is an outlier in many ways but if Evolutions had the same amount of secret/ultra rares as SM sets then they singles wouldn’t be worthless.

FA Mega Blastoise has been going for as low as $6. At least that’s what I’ve been paying for them.

At one point the holo charizard was selling for $16 on ebay, so I would buy all the ones on amazon for $8 then just flip them. Unfortunately out of 50+, only one was gem mint!

@regigigagod made a very subtle, but interesting point. If Wizards had not lost the license to Nintendo back in 2003, they very much could have kept the same model as E-series: 32 holos plus secret rares. It’s almost certainly at least a case of cards to complete Aquapolis & Skyridge from packs. We can only assume the ratios would have continued to get worse.

Yugioh jumped from 2 to 10 secret rares, eventually adding ultimate & ghost rares. It’s almost like the model is inevitable. “Everything looks good… I think, I think this time it’s going to work… No… No… NOOO!”

I basically feel like the new sets just arnt worth spending the money on, when you can concentrate on the competition in getting the older sets.

The new ones arnt a challenge enough, and investment wise they arnt exciting. I dont think there will be much growth in them, because of the reasons i said before. For greedy capitalist pigs, things do not look great for the new sets if the quality is higher and easy to score 10s… Please bring back the quality of ancient origins and primal clashingtons.

I dont have thousands of dollans to spend, and if I spent money on these new sets, it would be a huge waiste and ide never complete my goals. SO I can definitely understand why people would be upset with trying to complete these newer sets being that many secret rares ect if thats what there spending there dollans on… But again if people are not happy with these sets, what does that say about the future for these sets… Only toiime will tell. However I feel the Hybper rares have great potential, and so would ultra rares if they turned them into friggen pokemon… The quality just needs to come down. As far as japanese is concerned… Oh man, modern japanese sets… the quality being to high is an absolute deal breaker for me. They will never be rare and this is why a limited 1st edition print for japanese would make things so much better, and so Engrish will be the way to go for sure! But now that the quality of engrish has increase, and there still isnt a 1st edition print… WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!

Thats why I reckon… If your dissatisfied with parting with your money on these new sets, have fun elsewhere and see where it takes you :blush:

@frost You must get 15 psa 10 no rarity dewgong and 1 pristine bgs 10 no rarity dewgong if you can get a candidate… Im not saying i have one for you, or am I :nerd_face:

Chase cards aside, I think the new sets have a nice range of artwork. Freaking Dr. Ooyama illustrated some cards, which is insanely rare.
