Grey's Flygon Line Collection & All Language Master Set Project

1

Hello! I’m excited to post my collection somewhere to show off the scope of my Flygon line merchandise and my all languages master set project progress!

I have been collecting the Flygon line for years, and went from saying “wow there’s really not that much Flygon stuff” to “oh my god, they need to stop making stuff, I’m trying to keep up”. A fun problem to have!

The scope of my collection is incredibly broad; I collect everything from plushies to home goods to items with tiny cameos (like Trapinch on the Pokemon ANA Ohana plane). I am always looking for things, no matter how niche, and always appreciate being pointed to merch I may not have!

Having finished my English master set of the line, I am moving on to an all-languages collection. (Please, somebody help me with Russian Flygon, I’m dying here). I am SO excited to see my new international languages binder fill up.

I felt like Pokémon Day was a good day to share this, but I am also being a bit impatient as I have a bunch of merch in the mail right now to myself. So expect updates and some reorganizing sooner rather than later.

This is going to take a few posts with the size of things.

Physical Goods Collection:

First of all, a broad view of the shelves. I just got these acrylic boxes to try to prevent dust, and will probably be adding two more when my latest buyee order arrives.

This shelf is currently a little barren (and features a shiny Cacnea kid figure cameo) while I am waiting for Japanese copies of Pokemon Ranger and Pokemon Box to arrive. I always wondered why Flygon is on the Japanese copy of Box but not the english one. Similarly, I am preparing to put a DS in the front with the hard to find Pokemon Daisuki Club Pokemon Ranger DS decals. I don’t know a lot about them except that they were a lottery promotional item, and I thought it would be fun to have a green DS with the Flygon decal front and center.

In the background you can see a promotional Pokemon Ranger display sign I got a few years ago. I also added a Korean exclusive acrylic stand featuring Gengar, Trapinch, and Cubone. Weird trio! You can also see some small stationary pieces like Flygon tape and the megablox Trapinch toys.

This box here features some of the larger figures I have. The highlight for me probably is the fantastic needle-felted Trapinch and Flygon sculpture done by Kary_bird on twitter. It was an entry for the 2024 Pokémon card art contest and I personally think it should have won! I immediately reached out to purchase it after the artist posted their entry.

In here I have the two Jazwares Flygon figures. I really adore the quality on these and just ordered myself a second sealed version of the Select figure because it is so gorgeous. I also have a sealed version of my favorite Pokémon merch line, the Pokémon Time set that features Flygon. There are also some additional smaller figure sets and toys in here, and the Flygon Shikishi Art Board in the background. I’m saving some room in here for the Rement Circular Diorama Flygon coming out early next month.

Next up, and probably my favorite box, is the smaller figures case. Here’s the culmination of years of watching for small figures to appear for sale. On the back shelf, I have a resin set of the line, as well as a sealed and unsealed Tomy figure. There is also one of my rarest items– the Flygon stamp on the premier ball roller. Similarly hard to come by, I have both known metal trapinch figures in the front. There is also a small playset figure flygon, figures from the Zukan pokedex set, and the Midnight Agent Gengar and Flygon figure in the back.

In the background, there is a really cute puzzle featuring the Hoenn starters, Pikachu, Flygon and Trapinch, Skarmory, Spoink, Cacnea, Sandshrew, and Cradily. It’s super cute– I have a full pic later in the thread with flats. There’s also a card file I hadn’t ever seen before getting. It seems like such a bizarre selection of Pokémon to pair together and it has a very lop-antenna Flygon, which I haven’t ever seen depicted before. I’ve also got a growing collection of colors of Waps of the line.

In the front I have all the kid figures, with the normal and transparent versions of each. It also has my most favorite collection item— the limited Shiny Flygon kid figure, which is my favorite version of my favorite Pokemon. I think it is SO cool that there is official merch of it.

Next up, this box has a mixture of my TCG items and some school supply and personal good items. I plan to eventually split these into two boxes. To the left is my etched Flygon Line master set binder, which holds my English cards, non-tcg, stickers, etc.

In the back I have the Flygon EX Box (It’s not actually sealed fresh— I opened it way back in the day when it came out but kept the empty booster packs for display purposes). I have an empty Ex Dragon Windblast deck box, a Holon Phantoms deck box, and two metal tins. The darker box might not look like much, but it has Blaziken and Flygon etched very finely in gold on it. I have not been able to find a good quality version under $300 for sale, but I got this fairly poor quality one for $30, so I’ll take it.

I also have a mixture of stationary items like stampers and the fantastic Trapinch stapler, one of my favorite things in here.

With the image limit per post, I’ll be continuing along below and will post when done with the initial update : ) Next up is more shelves and then my cards!

Thanks for looking, and I hope you continue to enjoy seeing more of my favorite bug-not-bug dragons.

That needle felt sculpture is AMAZING! I would have loved to see that be an actual card!

Physical Goods Contd:

I have a shelf that’s sort of my misc / mixed items that are still looking for the right home on my display. This includes some dishware like the Flygon metal cup and the Trapinch bowl, some larger pieces like the bite collection tin, the BEAUTIFUL Pokemon center Flygon and Dragonite bookends, some funky socks, and the terrarium figures. The hat in the center is created by a Japanese street wear artist who makes Pokemon inspired pieces sometimes. It was a lucky Yahoo auctions find.

Some misc items here– a sketch book featuring flygon on the pages, a purse from the bite collection, a lanyard from the recent escaping collection, a dragon desk mat, a hankerchief from the Pokemon ANA plane collaboration which for some reason featured Trapinch on it, a fan made purse, and one of the two Mr. Donut collaboration blankets (I’ve got the other one in the mail).

Finally— the plushies! I had them precariously balanced so pardon them still on the shelf. I’ve got all of the official plushies here plus a few bootlegs. We’ve got the fit dolls, the advanced era Flygon, a bootleg Flygon (regular), the Halloween keychain Trapinch, the bite collection puppet, a funky bootleg Trapinch, and a VERY large bootleg shiny Flygon. I’m so glad Vibrava FINALLY has some representation here.

Ita Bag:

My ita bag / display bag is my favorite way of showing off my Flygon love when I’m at conventions and card shows. It’s starting to get heavy with how much it has inside and on it and it certainly can be noisy jingling with all the keychains. I love adding Ground Pokemiku on here too.

It’s two sided, the big window features most items and the back features the star with the pearler pixel art. The big embroidered flygons are custom, but both the smaller ones are official merchandise items from the Advanced era.

Highlights on the back of the bag to me include the monthly Dragon pin Flygon (which I had to battle awful connection on a hot grounded plane to purchase), a rubber stamp of the manhole that features Trapinch behind the Sandshrews, the very hard to come by Flygon on premier ball bell keychain, the recently released Korea exclusive Trapinch pin, and a beautiful custom made plush shiny Flygon keychain.

TCG and Other Cards / Stickers:

I’ll let these speak for themselves mostly! This was my pride to recently complete. In here I have all the English cards for the line, the JP exclusive art and a few additional unique cards like the Chinese Flygon with the unique holo pattern.

I really love looking at the Winner stamp cards, I’ve always wanted them. My favorite card out of all Flygons is the Flygon delta from Holon Phantons. It’s absolutely my favorite Flygon art out of any card. The Boundaries Crossed pre-release Flygon was the WORST one for me to track down due to them either being sold as bundles, being overpriced by $200+, or unavailable. A friend eventually helped me source one through Cardmarket. I’ve tried to leave some room to grow as more cards come out!

TCG Collection continued in next post!

TCG Continued:

Cards continued, this time the rest of Vibrava and Trapinch! They thankfully were nowhere near as hard to track down. Grey placeholder images are where I have pictures I have yet to print in color or gloss. On the last page there, I have a few error cards (secret wonders holo bleed, some miscuts). I have a few more to add soon so I’ll need to reorganize.

The four grey fake cards are where I’m going to make proxies of my own artwork– I did these custom gold star / shiny V cards for my personal use, since I love the shiny variants so much.

Here I’ve got the other unique ex era serial number versions of those cards, and some cameos. The line is only found on two cards besides the Flygon full art from Phantasmal, so I only have to collection Raihan signature ver. and (unfortunately for me) Machamp V. I am not looking forward to getting all of those for my all languages collection eventually… rip.

Probably my favorite page out of the whole binder is the sleeves and pack cameos here as well. I have every sleeve where Flygon or Vibrava is visible, as well as the three Japanese card packs where Flygon and Vibrava are visible. Believe me, if you squint, Vibrava is on that first one. I included blown up versions to help with the scavenger hunt.

I really like Lamincards, and recently got a full set (that vibrava on the bottom is in the mail now). I think they’re really neat! I’ve also got a phantasmal flames pre-release mention (I didn’t even know about this, but a seller of another card included it for me and that was a great surprise). I’ve got two cards associated with the games– a card about the ground z crystal and a code promo from ORAS. I’ve also got another two of the only Flygon coins for my binder.

On the bottom, I have this weird paper card– the seller listed it as a “Pokemon Change Card”. It flips in the middle where it is folded to reveal Vibrava underneath. I know there’s a Vibrava - Flygon one as well. If you know more about these, please let me know because I don’t know what to search to find the other version.

This page is loosely dedicated to battling, I guess? I have the Top Sun Advanced battle cards on here– I am only missing the 3D version of Salamence ft. Flygon. Help a dude out if you see it for sale or have a spare!

I also have the english version of the e-reader battle series cards, and am waiting on the JP versions. Perhaps my most obscure card like item, I have this card of trainer Aito from the Pokémon Colosseum e-reader cards. If you squint, Trapinch is that blurry shape on the bottom right!

Here we get to the section of the binder that’s gonna most be misc. Cards. The first spread is a mixture of fan cards / non TCG cards, cards from candies and other toys, kid figure stickers, and the Topps Advanced die cut cards. I keep missing that Vibrava for sale and I’m MAD about it. It’s probably my wishlist priority right now.

The second spread is more Topps and Zukan cards. I need the holographic Vibrava (ebay seller ghosted me on one unfortunately) to finish it off. I have two fun lenticular cards and the Jp Pokedex cards on here as well.

These pages are WIPS– still have to print the illustrations honoring Flygon in each game. I intend to put all the Menkos I get in here with the Battrio chips. I know it’s a binder foul to put non TCG, but this is my Flygon line bible and I do what I want and I Love seeing things all together.

The second spread is my page dedicated to the Jirachi Wishmaker movie. I have a mixture of the movie cards, Carddass cards, and merch backings. The two cards in the mail are the Carddass cards that have the back design that makes Flygon when put together.

Here is another page that’s become the ground for Whatever I end up getting– Trapinch poker card, some fun fake gold cards I’ve been given by friends, Flygon Staks, lenticular fan cards and the official Action Flipz / Pokedex cards.

I also have a collection of the game chip / game cards that exist from the various physical arcade games. I have a few in the mail especially since some new ones just came out recently.

We have now gotten to the stickers and flats zone part of my collection! I don’t have the perfect way to organize stickers yet, so right now for the sake of space I am combining them together best I can.

Flats & Misc:

Getting towards the end now! I have some illustrations done by two of my siblings that I absolutely love, packaging that features the line on it, some clear files, calendar pages, misc art pages, writing board promo for Ranger, and the artwork of that super cute puzzle.

TCG relevant again, I recently picked up this promotional poster for the paired ex Dragon decks. I LOVE this artwork, can’t wait to get it framed. Featuring this Very unsettling to look at Absol.

Last but not least– where am I going from here? Well, I’ve recently picked up the binder that is to become my All-languages collection. I expect it to be slow, tedious, and expensive, but it gives me something to keep going and always stay engaged with! I am also working on the JP cards, which will live with the English cards in my main Flygon binder.

If you made it this far, thanks again for reading! I am so excited to continue filling my collection and to get help from the community as I do. If you have any leads on cards you think I might need or want, please reach out! (Especially for those stupid Topps Vibravas!)

Happy Pokemon Day

RIGHT! I think it really deserved to be a finalist at minimum!! I wish TPC wasn’t so allergic to physical material art except the oldschool artists.

An amazing collection post! Always fun to see species collectors that just go all out :slightly_smiling_face: And despite Flygon being pretty popular (I think?), you’re the first Trapinch/Vibrava/Flygon species collector I’ve run into. I especially like Trapinch and Flygon’s design.

The fact that you picked up the needlefelted Flygon + Trapinch submission is extremely awesome! As with Yuka Morii’s pieces, I didn’t expect the piece to be so big, but I think it makes sense. It’s hard to capture detail properly without size. I’ve always felt needlefelting hasn’t yet had its spotlight in TCG arts. We already have crochet and clay, but last year’s art contest demonstrated how great embroidery can be too. And the success of Pokemon Concierge showed how appealing felt-like designs can be.

I also love these pieces by your siblings. And the EX Dragon poster.

I’ll keep an eye out for any interesting Trapinch evo-line items. I thought I noticed a Trapinch in something recently, but I can’t quite recall at the moment.

If you’re in the US, I can’t recommend scrolling through this person’s sales pages enough. I’ve bought from her many times, and she has such a wide variety of stuff, that I’m sure you’ll find some things to pick up (and her costs are very reasonable as well). I just linked the flats and found a few Trapinch evo-line stuff (I see you have some of them already):

I also am working on a resource for those square sticker books for species collectors looking for cameos, but it probably won’t be available for some time (and definitely won’t be complete). Feel free to reach out if you’re interested in any pages (see below, for example) :slightly_smiling_face:

You’ll probably find a lot of camoes in patapata sealdass sticker sheets too (see below).

There’s gotta be some postcards with Trapinch, Vibrava, Flygon too

Anyways, look forward to your future collection additions!

Thank you for the collection compliments and that link! While I recently ordered most of those stickers you shared, I saw a few things I probably will pick up in there!

I also am always surprised how big needle felt art is, but it makes sense, especially for this one with the resin eye domes. I hope Pokemon concierge opens up the door for that kind of art to appear more often.

I think I know of one other collector who collects the line, but I say that recognizing they focus on Flygon above the other two who they pick up here and there. I think I might be the only person who puts as much weight on Vibrava and Trapinch as collection priorities. I love the whole line so much and it makes me happy to see all three together : ) I definitely want to have the largest collection of them out there, or at least the most diverse items of them.

I’ll keep an eye out on your sticker knowledge! I also ordered some patapata stickers recently, but I’m gonna need to pick through all of them to make sure

Yeah, I think Flygon is relatively popular, but most people don’t focus on the pre-evolutions.

I also just randomly remembered where I saw Trapinch. It has a cameo in the recent Escape/Run Away merch line (that has a lot of stuff–clear files, stickers, tins, etc.).

Yeah!! I think Flygon usually polls in the top 30-35 Pokémon during those annual polls.

I think that new line is so cute! Ive got the lanyard with trapinch and a metal tin as well, will probably add a few more when I come across them.

Oh my god what an incredible collection!! As a fellow Flygon lover his is wonderful to see. And a fun fact - I very recently completed my Flygon binder collection (all English and Japanese variants) and the BW Staff Promo was also the last card that I needed for my collection

Incredible collection! I really enjoy reading the story behind each item (and I’ll definitely steal the idea of using an acrylic box to display the collection). And what stands out the most to me is the Trapinch stapler because it’s really cute and fits Trapinch perfectly :slightly_smiling_face:

I also always love seeing Gen 3 species collections, so thank you for sharing! I’m looking forward to future updates.

Cheers,
Adhi

Thank you so much! I am always happy to see more people collecting Flygon!
That’s an awesome feat, I’m working on all Japanese cards now as well as passively every card every language.

That BW Staff promo was AWFUL! I was surprised because the winner stamps aren’t that terrible to find and typically not too obnoxiously priced, but the inflation on that particular card is crazy.

I always love seeing Gen 3 mons get the love they deserve as well! Mudkip is a fantastic one to collect– I have a shiny Marshtomp kid figure I ended up with when I got my Flygon that’s very cute. I’ll probably sell it but the purple friend lights up my shelf for now.

I just love getting knowledge on the ways older merch was released especially, so I’m always glad to share the info I have built up I rarely get to spew about. The Trapinch stapler is absolutely a favorite for me too, it has a delightfully soft silicone texture and It really is exactly the right gimmick for it. I love that whole cute bite collection line.

The boxes have been a great addition– they really were relatively cheap to pick up and they can stack on each other. I used to just have everything on my shelves flat but it was collecting a lot of dust (curse of a cat litterbox in the room) and it was harder to see everything, so the boxes paired with some of those acrylic display risers has made a world of difference.

top tier on your image layouts btw. I really should up my game…

But man the flygon toys always look cool because of his inherent design. Goggles just doing heavy lifting on the cool factor.

Also very cool felt figure. I can hear trapinch saying a little “yahoo!”
