Grading company volume in April 2023

I am thrilled release day isn’t just singles being bought out for grading. Binder gang is on the way back

In the same boat. However I look at it, and start thinking “if I grade at $15 now vs $10, can I more than make up the $5 difference grading and selling now, versus waiting when everyone sends at $10 and the current selling price drops by more than $5”?

Really not surprised by anything here.

CGC still has the best cases and also has sub-grades as a differentiating factor. But when PSA are lowering their prices while CGC raised theirs so now I can’t get subs for less than $30USD… they’re really doing their best to drive people away.

I agree with @zorloth

I really like the product-just submitted some cards for my PC, but I completely understand people sending to PSA and doing the flip game as a side hustle or to help build their own collections given the market for PSA 10s compared to CGC 9.5s. Even if people do prefer the CGC slabs, it’s hard to pass up the monetary opportunity PSA offers for both flipping and long term hold.

I read somewhere that someone gave the opinion that CGC is harder on factory defects like whitening and centering, and PSA is more strict on after factory damage like dents, creases etc. I tend to agree more with PSAs standards if this is true.

If both companies had a similar grading scale, I wonder how it would affect the value. After all, their coin companies-PCGS and NGC seem to have similar grading standards and value. Maybe it could’ve been close.

I prefer PSA too.

Agreed. Not CGC’s fault by any means but for me they’ve become synonymous with junk slabs. First thing I do when I’m searching for a card is filter by PSA only. I’m sorry but I’m not interested in your CGC 6.5 legendary collection non-holo Exeggutor.

Cgc needs to do a $7 pokemon special ASAP.

I agree! The only issue is that then the market is going to be flooded with even more junk slabs, which hurts peoples’ brand perception. That said, it’s genuinely bewildering to me that they haven’t reduced the bulk price yet.

They just raised their prices and eliminated tiers for comics and mags too. Had to rush to get some orders in before the hike hit. Seem to be going the wrong way lol

There was a point in the big pandemic boom where you could basically only submit to CGC (at the time they were ~$10/card and PSA was ~$50), so that’s where all the junk slabs went.

Plus people were actually buying the junk too so it only made it worse. Now you cant even sell psa 8 1st ed wotc holos for more than raw. Crazy change but pretty much makes sense

I’m surprised SGC is 2nd place. Would have thought that’d be CGC.

They do a ton of sports cards, notice how low they are on the TCG image.

Ahhh, I only looked at the first image. Thanks!

BGS falling off a cliff but still take a month to tell you they’ve “received” your order. Also take 4 months to grade your bulk order. Great company 10/10

When will psa just buy bgs

Why would they need to? BGS is no threat to them, and PSA likely has no interest in using their slab design either.

More of the market obviously, and no one said anything about adopting the bgs case design.

Plus with bgs down repeatedly, im sure selling out has crossed some executives minds

I really like CGC but their prices need to drop to stay competitive. At this point I’m seriously considering collecting PSA instead for non-errors because it doesn’t make sense to pay more for CGC when their slabs are worth less. Huge F for me and other CGC collectors at the time being honestly :anguished:
